I think it's easily just as good, but in an entirely different way... I personally prefer Mad Men, but never miss an episode of Breaking Bad, either. They're both slow to start each season and finish with a bang, leaving you wanting more every time.

Bumping this up for the new season. Last night's episode was insanely intense. Even though the episode was called the boxcutter and it was obvious Victor was going to bite it after he got made at the scene, and there was a warning about intense violence right before it happened, the scene where Gus cut his throat was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. The way Gus held his chin up and Victor was trying to bite him, so damn cold. I love how dark this show is but I hope later episodes do have a little more of their trademark black humor too.
Also I think Anna Gunn does a good job as Skyler but she is looking less and less human every season. I don't know exactly what she is doing to herself but she needs to stop.

I thought Anna Gunn's face looked weird, all stretched out and puffy. I don't know if she was bloated or what.
I found it cool that Jesse didn't speak until that scene with him and Walt in the diner, yet he managed to convey so much throughout the whole episode. Kudos to Aaron Paul.

Stupid Comcast decided to throw up and scramble the picture and sound during the episode, so I missed about half of it. But I did see the scene with Gus and the box cutter. Damn.
And I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought Skylar looked weird.
I think it is interesting that the Exec. Producer of the show just wants to send Walt further and further down the dark path. He has no plans to redeem him or to make the audiences like him. It will be interesting to see exactly where they take Walt.
Poor Jesse. Seems he's the only person in that mess with an actual soul.

Is Anna Gunn pregnant? She was wearing that loose robe in the early scenes then carrying the baby at the end so I wondered if they were covering her belly. She looked like she had a bit of preggoface going on.
Once again, BB had me and my husband jumping to our feet, screaming "No way! OMFG! F! Holy F! Aaaaaahhhhh!" And Aaron Paul just is operating on a whole 'nother level last night. So often, an actor kills someone onscreen and goes with tears or rage. Aaron looked so truly traumatized that I could barely look at him. Last season, Jesse told Walt, "Ever since I met you, my life has turned to shit!" and oh my gosh, it has. Watching the BB marathon this week, I was surprised how buoyant Jesse was when the show started. He joked, he swaggered, he strutted. And now he's the walking dead.
Giancarlo Esposito needs an Emmy next year. There's an interview with him at nymag.com where he explains his preparation for that scene. The guy's supernatural. Bravo.

Anna Gunn has definitely gained weight. Not sure if it is pregnancy weight or not. She is not fat by any means but it is kind of funny that the show is supposed to pick up on the same day as it ended last season and all of a sudden Skyler is two sizes bigger. Also even beyond the weight gain something about her face looks off. She has a little bit of the Joker thing happening around her mouth.
ITA about both Aaron Paul and Giancarlo Esposito's performances. I hope the actors who were nominated this year for Emmys enjoy this Breaking Bad free year because no way anybody but Aaron Paul or Giancarlo Esposito is winning best supporting actor next year.
I think Walt's ultimate demise by the series end whether it is by cancer or violence is inevitable. But I am holding out some small hope for a happy ending for Jesse.

I actually didn't love the premier--not hardcore enough for me, as insane as that sounds. Maybe it was because I was spoiled for it, I dunno.
The most difficult part for me was watching Marie take care of Hank, and not just because they're my favorite characters. I have to admire the writers for refusing to sugar coat the realities of a guy taking that many bullets--even though he survived, his recovery will be long and painful.
Ugh, Skyler. I think her moral decay is well on its way to being complete. True confession: I used to love Skyler, and think Anna Gunn has done an amazing job, but I loathe and despise the character now. It's like watching Carmella Soprano after she bought back into the mob marriage.
As for Walt's ultimate end--my prediction is that Walt succumbs to cancer or complications from treatment, while Skyler takes the fall for Walt's crimes, due to her complicity. As for Jesse--I think he'll be the one to die violently, probably at the hands of Hank.

I think Hank & Marie are likely the only ones that will make it out of this show alive/not in jail. Skyler has become really devious as the show's gone on, the look on her face after the locksmith left said it all to me.

Skyler has become really devious as the show's gone on, the look on her face after the locksmith left said it all to me. That was a touching and hearbreaking scene with the bedpan. Something you rarely see on TV is what a couple goes through when one is disabled. I hope Jesse somehow survives as he is one of the few characters that has struggled to retain a moral compass. Vince Gilligan's statements about how bleak he wants the show to become do not offer confidence that will happen. Gus was scarier in five minutes, saying only one line of dialog, than the villans of a hundred slasher films. Giancarlo for the Emmy.
