I liked that Gretchen and what's his face had to do Walt one last favor, but one thing has always kinda gotten me - they talk about how Walt got screwed over by the Grey Matter duo, but didn't Walt basically flounce? Yeah, he got a measly $5K from a company eventually worth millions and they didn't give Walt credit for his work during that Charlie Rose interview, but I always thought that Walt left of his own accord because he was butthurt. They didn't squeeze him out, he left. Is that right, or am I imagining that? They have never said specifically what went down with Grey Matter but apparently on one of the DVD commentary tracks or extras, Vince Gilligan says that Walt flounced after Gretchen's father made him feel inferior for not coming from money. Which, I can understand why it wasn't on the show but yeah I think it is still heavily implied Walt screwed himself over in regards to Grey Matter. Which makes his actions in the finale even more awful. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was really clever what he did. But basically he blackmailed two innocent people into doing something illegal and making them fear for their lives for at least the next year. All because they had the misfortune of some perceived slight years ago. And being yuppies and enjoying nice cheese. The ratings last night were huge. Something like 10 million viewers. i bet AMC is really regretting cutting back the order of the final season now. And to think they originally only wanted season 5 to be 8 episodes! And to conclude, the cutest freaking photo ever.

Another thing that I find interesting in retrospect, was how they never acknowledged Hank and Marie not having kids. It was never mentioned. Ever. It wasn't mentioned in passing or even suggested why they didn't have kids. When things went south, any other show would have had an argument with Skyler or Walt calling them baby snatchers because they didn't/couldn't kids of their own. Or at the very least, a side storyline would have been Marie/Hank having fertility treatments and/or looking into adoption. But here, there was no need. They were fully realized without falling back on old tropes.
The more I think about it, there were very few negatives about this show. One of the best shows ever, and it ended perfectly.

Another thing that I find interesting in retrospect, was how they never acknowledged Hank and Marie not having kids. It was never mentioned. Ever. It wasn't mentioned in passing or even suggested why they didn't have kids. There was an episode in season three when Hank, after leaving a young meth head in a holding room quipped, "Remind me to get a vasectomy," and in the season four episode, "Open House," Marie (though pretending to be someone else) told a realtor, "I don't really want kids." So I thought it was implied they just didn't want them. Overall, the finale wrapped up a little too neatly for me. I'm actually annoyed Walt got to make anything right. I'm also a tad annoyed that Skyler had the opportunity to make a deal, as she was just as responsible for the way it all worked out. If she'd said no to the money laundering part of it and just gone to the police like a normal person, (or at least left town) the family (especially Hank) might have avoided the worst. I am happy it was Lydia who ate, or rather, drank, the ricin cigarette. And that Todd the psychopath isn't still wandering around out there.

Anyone catch The Colbert Report last night? Vince Gilligan was the guest and at the end they did a skit where Colbert had him chained up in the basement demanding that he write more BB. It was so funny.

Question: would Jesse have access to any money to get out of town?
I now realize why people write fan fiction. I would like to know how Jesse winds up.

Hmmm, probably not. I think his money wound up at Hank's house so I'm guessing the DEA took it as evidence. I like to think that he'll hook up with Badger and Skinny Pete and they'll loan him some money to go on the road with, assuming they haven't spent all the money Walt gave them on meth or weed already.
