I truly believe I have elevated Crap Music to an art form. To wit, some of my faves from my "CRAP!" playlist:
Ya Mo Be There (Michael McDonald and James Ingram) Seperate Ways and Any Way You Want It (Journey) Let's Get Serious (Jermaine Jackson) Celebrate Youth (Rick Springfield) Double Vision (Foreigner) Far From Over (Frank Stallone)
and of course
Any and all Teen Poo (Spice Girls, BSB, NSync, Bitbit)

Word on "Far from Over," Dwanollah. Other embarrassing faves are as follows (if I gave you my entire list, I'd crash the server):
"You Make me Feel Like Dancing" Leo Sayer "Radar Love" Golden Earring That Gawd-Awful "Ketchup Song" and anything from The Cover Girls, Barry Manilow, and The Bloodhound Gang
There, I said it.
Eta: b/c I couldn't work the quote function just now

For my demographic, I really shouldn't let anyone know that I really like the Duran Duran's songs from the 80s.

Heee, this thread is making me laugh so hard! Everyone sheepishly offering up their shameful secret music crushes, and I'm thinking...y'know...I like at least one song from nearly everyone's list. Moldy, I like ALL of your songs! Especially the first one. And I'm a 41-year-old white chick, why am I loving goofy Cypress Hill songs?
Topher, I won't mock your Durannie secret. I actively avoided them back in the day, I admit it (I was an indie music elitist back then) but just last week I admitted to my little sister (who was in the appropriate Duran Duran demographic) that I actually kind of liked "Save a Prayer" after all.
I will admit to liking:
It's Not Unusual by Tom Jones (and not in an ironic, postmodern way, either) Galveston by Glen Campbell (ditto) That version of Love is All Around by Wet Wet Wet The stupid whistly theme song from the movie Georgy Girl (I've liked it since I was 4) Take on Me by A-Ha Ray of Light by Madonna (I've haaaated her forever, so it was tough to admit!)

If I tell you I went to a show last week where they sang Eurovision Song Contest songs from the past 50 years, will that tell you enough about my taste in music? I love me some cheese!
And, like Vacationland, I too am crazy about 'It's not unusual', plus I think Tom Jones' 'Delilah' is a masterpiece.
'Against all odds' gives me shivers in a good way.

It IS! I saw TJ in concert a few months back, and he rocked the house! He's one of those singers who can make any song his. I doinged around and sang every song and whooped and hollered... but not as much as the 75-year-old woman celebrating her birthday at the table in front of us....

Cuckoo, you're not alone. I also have a soft spot for Eurovision Song Contest classics. How can anyone not to love Teach-In's Ding Dinge Dong?
Other shameful favourites: Meat Loaf: You Took The Words right Out of My Mouth Tiffany: I think We're Alone Now Puff Daddy: It's All About the Benjamins

Ooops, we poked a Durannie with a stick. Sorry, Dwanollah! Didn't mean to offend! It's just...well, wrongness is sometimes demographically linked. During the peak of Duran Duran mania, I was just too darned old for it. Plus, y'know, too black-eyeliner-and-Doc-Martens-and-bad-attitude for that kind of music. (And by "that kind" I mean "popular.")
Don't even get me started on the horrors of living on the same street as a New Kid on the Block at the peak of their fame and having to push my way through groups of squealing fangirlies to buy cigarettes at the local Store 24 every day.
That said (looks around to make sure nobody from the old neighborhood is here)...I think The Right Stuff is kind of catchy. There. I said it.
Plus? I still like Kajagoogoo's one-hit wonder song Too Shy. I know I shouldn't, but it's insanely catchy. I even sang along when they featured it on VH1's Bands Reunited. *sigh* Yep. Kajagoogoo.
Cuckoo, are you in Europe? 'Cause most North Americans remain blissfully ignorant of the Eurovision Song Contest (and the level of Velveeta it features). But good for you! Get down with your bad self and those Eurovision winners! I was fond of a Russian group a few years ago...they were like a boy band, but one populated by fugly thirtysomething guys. It was hypnotically bad, but I could not look away. Genius! Thank god for video on the internet!
ETA Whoo! Lots of Tom Jones love in the house! Who knew? Wonder if there's some kind of link between snark and a secret and wholly unironic love of Tom Jones?

Don't even get me started on the horrors of living on the same street as a New Kid on the Block You know you're going to have to tell us who it was, because I'm curious. Also, I'm an ex-'Blockhead'. Who still has kind of a crush on Joey. Yes, I'm in Europe! It's a shame there's no such thing as 'World-o-vision Song Contest', because it's so bad it is just that. good. Hey, it brought us ABBA! And the song 'Volare'! I think I remember the Russian group you're talking about. Did they wear black, Rhythm Nation-like outfits, and did they have industrial-like dance moves? I forgot the song though. Nowadays, Eurovision is all about the act. That's why all the songs I like are from the '70s and '80s.
