Oh, god, my ear candy tastes are so embarrassing! I love that song Fill Me up, Buttercup (now just what the heck does that mean??) John Denver's Annie's Song, How Deep is Your Love by the Bee Gees, Olivia Newton John's country song Please Mister Please and the piece de resistance of embarrassment, Love Bites by none other than Def Leopard.
And has anyone seen that David Spade/Chris Farley movie Tommy Boy, where they're on a road trip in a convertible, and the Carpenters song about the rock star (don't you remember you told me you loved me baaaaby, baby baby baby oooobaby) comes on and one says to the other "You can change that if you want" and the other, looking uncomfortable says, "No, you go ahead and change it..." The next scene is them singing at the top of their lungs while weeping. Priceless!

I love ABBA, too, and own the ABBA Gold CD. Which is strange because 90% of what I listen to is hip-hop. I also have an unending love for "Lost in Emotion" by Lisa Lisa, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and other 80's shlock. There are some early 90's ditties, too, that are always in heavy rotation for me, such as Erasure's "Take a Chance on Me" (going back to the ABBA love), G-n-R's "November Rain", and Candyman's "Knockin' Boots". Then there are songs that I love but had totally forgotten about. Now that I have XM, I'll catch little gems on the 80's or 90's stations that I had completely forgotten about. Most recently, I caught "Tonight" by NKOTB and was straight jammin'. I'm amazed at how many of the lyrics I remembered.

Okay, this? I like this song. A lot. I don't even know who sings it--I suspect a cheez-wizzy boy band--but I luuuurve it. So dang catchy. Those dreamy, plastic harmonies and vapid sentiments. I am quite sure I'm like 25-30 years older than the target demo for this song.
Go ahead, break my heart and humiliate me in public: who sings this?

Backstreet Boys, dear. This I promise you, I know me the teen poo.
*handing over the cut-throat razor and a bottle of pills*
Whoopde, it's actually Build Me Up, Buttercup, and the lyrics go:
Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin' You know that I have from the start So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don't break my heart
And I squee'd my head off when Clay Aiken sang it on American Idol, too.

Oh Jesus. It's worse than I thought! I was kind of hoping for one of those quasi-acceptable European or Australian boy bands, but...Backstreet Boys?
My humiliation is complete. I'll take that razor now, thanks.

No! Don't do it! Hell yeah they were cheesy but they *could* sing and they *could* harmonize. Let us not be ashamed, that song is pure, uncut, beautiful POP.
Tell me WHY-EE!, ain't nuthin' but a hearrrrt breaaak...etc.

You know what's funny? I totally love that Backstreet Boys song, too. Only I like the Weird Al Yankovic version that's all about eBay.

*stands up* Hi, my name is jw7579 and I like quite a few of Michael Bolton songs, specifically Time Love and Tenderness, Steel Bars, Love Is a Wonderful Thing, and Soul Provider.
