Adams St. in Dorchester, 1988...ahh, those were the days. It was the simian-looking, unpretty one. Not Donnie. Danny? I think Danny; don't remember his last name. As I said, I was mostly annoyed by the teens and preteens lurking in huge groups around the neighborhood, hoping to catch a glimpse of a New Kid. This is just before the band members all pretty much moved to the 'burbs...I did see Donnie and the young one (was that Joey?) once, at a local video store. I also remember them filming the first Marky Mark video at the park up behind my house.
Yes! The Russians with the black outfits and industrial dance moves. They cracked my shit up. Good that you mentioned Abba; for those who have never seen or heard of the Eurovision thing, they're the perfect example of a Eurovision-type band (and Waterloo or Fernando are perfect examples of the kind of songs often featured). Cheese-tastic fun!

I love and adore ABBA! I also have quite a soft spot for Girls Aloud, their songs are so catchy. They're just pure, unadulterated pop.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that likes "Far From Over"; it's just so gotdang cheesy! And I always think of that syncronized swimming sketch from SNL that used that song.

I had to turn to my iPod category "Guilty Pleasures" for this one.
I was frightened to see lots of Adam Ant ("Prince Charming" "Strip" anyone?).
Other songs that I love and I probably shouldn't: "A Country Boy can Survive" from Hank Williams Jr. and I hate country music. I don't even come from a Nascar loving family or a redstate either. There is no rational explanation.
Neil Diamond "Forever in Blue Jeans" He is the Jewish Elvis!
Anything by Chingy and Nelly.
I'm embarassed if people in my peer group (33yr old white female) find any of my rap cds (see 50 Cent, Snoop, and Jay-Z, all of whom are excellent, I just get a lot of shit for it)
John Denver "Take Me Home, Country Roads"
Ciara "Two Step"
Gordon Lightfoot "Sundown"
Usher Damn if I didn't Tivo and watch that concert of his on Showtime and double damn if I can't get enough of "Caught Up" and "Yeah" to work out to.

When I was a child, I used to love "The Sign" by Ace of Base. To this day, I still perk up when I hear it. It's great for nostalgia.
I also used to sit by the radio everyday hoping they would play Celine Dion's "The Power of Love." Sweet Lord, that's embarrassing to think of now. I had it timed in the sense that I knew the general time of day they would play the song. I don't know why my parents didn't just buy the album for me. But anyway, wouldn't buy anything of hers now, but I'd stop if I heard this song.

Oh God, my whole music collection is like one big guilty pleasure.
"Tragedy" by the Brothers Gibb. So whiney and hilarious.
"I Want it That Way"--Backstreet Boys. What???
"Magic" and "Cruisin'" by Michael Nesmith. Don't knock it 'til you try it!
The Monkees, Olivia Newton-John, songs like "I Don't Have the Heart" by James Ingram, "Stay With Me Tonight" by Jeffrey Osbourne, Air Supply, '80s Chicago, REO Speedwagon, etc. etc. etc. Need I go on?

Wow. I forgot about Olivia.
I can't tell you how many times my friends and I re-enacted the Grease soundtrack...and don't even get me started on Xanadu
~Xanadooo, Xanadoooo ooooo ooooo~
Although, I do believe we are magic. You know? Nothing can stand in our way.

I, too, love the Monkees. LOVE THEM My favorite song? Papa Gene's Blues. It's all twang and Nesmith bluegrassy goodness. Can't get enough.
Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham! Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond (it makes me happy!) The Humpty Dance by Digital Underground Fat by the Violent Femmes Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-a-lot Potato's in the Paddy Wagon from the Mighty Wind Soundtrack (could listen to it ALL DAY)
I could keep going, but I'll stop now.

Prickle--My fave Monkees song is "The Door Into Summer." I love Nesmith a lot more than makes sense, considering my distaste for country music. I even read the unauthorized biography. Goooood times! When I was a kid (mid-80s) I used to think Davy Jones was so dreamy, but then I saw him on MTV (present day) in his day glo baggy pants and I kind of lost interest. Then I read the Nesmith book and also heard other things that showcased Jones' semi-asshole-ish-ness (?) and yeah. Nesmith is my fave, followed by Dolenz, followed closely by Tork, who actually seems like a pretty cool guy these days.
(Also, is your name a Gumby reference?)
