That New York song is just sooooo bad. It's like an 8th grader wrote it.

The band Train has this godawful song called Hey Soul Sister it is truly one of the worst pieces of music I have ever heard in my life. I am in physical and mental pain when I hear it come on my satellite radio and I cant change the channel fast enough. That's generally how I feel about EVERY Train song.

I have a soft spot for this one. The first time I heard it was the first time I visited NYC, and it was a very positive experience for me. When I think about it in that context, it makes me smile.

Amen on the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys song. I hate it. There's also a song out there by Drake, Kanye West et al. called "Forever" (link here) that I have a major case of hatred for. I think it's the intermittent air horns, plus his whiny "understand nothing was done for meeee" singing, but every time the local Top 40 station plays it (which is far more than sporadically) I yell at the radio and change the station. (And then I shake my cane and tell those damn kids to get off my lawn.) On a related note, I think the Train lyrics are trite and awful, but I can't help but love it. Damn, you Train!

The remake of "We are the World: 25 for Haiti". I am all for supporting Haiti, but three minutes of cats screeching (with a couple exceptions) isn't the way to do it. I enjoyed this review of that travesty.

Maybe this should also go in unpopular opinions, but I never thought the original We Are the World was all that great either, so I was even more annoyed that they couldn't write a brand new song, but just remade a song that was kind of crap to begin with. Why can't anyone do anything original anymore? How hard is it to write a benefit song? There's already a theme, and just for the sheer fact of being for a good cause, you can probably get away with not writing something super fantastic; it will sell anyway. If they could write two new, original benefit songs back in the mid 80s, why can't they do one now?

Unpopular? Hell no! WATW was a bombastic, poorly sung, stupid, annoying piece of copycat crap! With the exception of, like, Steve Perry and (!) Huey Lewis, most of the vocals were abysmal. It SUCKED ASS.

I HATE We Are The World so very much. I was in elementary school when that came out so of course they made us sing it. That was really when I started not liking Michael Jackson, when I found out that he was responsible for me having to sing that damn song in every single music class for what felt like forever.
