I would imagine he took the kids along somewhere most of us would think is inappropriate. Like take them along on a trip to a third world country to visit hookers inappropriate.

I'm going to go the other direction and guess that he doesn't want to have anything to do with them because:

1. Cute young things are far more interested in them than than in him; or

2. He can no longer keep up with them, drug/alcohol/hijinks-wise;

3. They're no longer interested in their outings consisting of Dad overindulging and sons having to babysit/limit his intake/rush him to ER/be totally embarrassed by his behavior; or

4. Any combination of the above.

About a year ago, there were some pictures in the Daily Fail of Sean and Robin traveling to NYC together and the speculation was "are they getting back together?" More pictures followed of the two of them having an angry, tearful confrontation with their daughter's boyfriend (which ended with Robin hugging him). So the speculation became that the daughter had some personal crisis and mom and dad needed to fly out and help her. That's what I thought of when he made that comment about their adult kids.

Or it could also be hookers.

That's the incident I thought of as well. At one point, Sean showed the boyfriend a picture on his phone and yelled at him about it. Robin was crying. Speculation - either the daughter or the boyfriend had some kind of drug overdose and it was an intervention of sorts. (The boyfriend is a "musician" and looks perpetually high, so it's not wild speculation.)

The most shocking thing about the photos was that Sean hugged and consoled Robin as if he were a decent human being.

with the Late Night interview, I read somewhere, or maybe it was in the interview, that he was still on the after effects of Ambien when he was being interviewed, so that could be why he was off.

He seems so self-serious, that it's an acting miracle he was able to create Jeff Spicoli.
