I think being self-serious came after the Spicoli role.

My theory is that he knows deep down that Spicoli was his best role ever, and he is desperate to do something to be taken seriously. But nothing will top Spicoli. "I'm so wasted!!!"

I had no idea this toolbox had spewed out a "book". I came across an article yesterday and I was truly appalled. He is repellant. I am so glad I was never a fan so he's always been cancelled by default. Thank God I'll never donate a single cent to any movie or project of his.
Pure klass. His poem.
Though warrior women
Bravely walk the walk,
Derivatives of disproportion
Draw heinous hypocrites
To their flock.
[….]
Where did all the laughs go?
Are you out there, Louis C.K.?
Once crucial conversations
Kept us on our toes;
Was it really in our interest
To trample Charlie Rose?
And what’s with this ‘Me Too’?
This infantilizing term of the day…
Is this a toddler’s crusade?
Reducing rape, slut-shaming, and suffrage to reckless child’s play?
A platform for accusation impunity?
Due process has lost its sheen?
But, fuck it, what me worry?
I’m a hero,
To Time Magazine!

I guess it's a better idea than them all getting together and harassing women en masse for a show.

Ah that's sweet! Those poor lost souls, all banding together to share war stories. "Hey remember that time those awful women mistook our genteel courtly attentions for harassment?" Silly wimminz!

It's not clear, but I think the premise is that they all want to demonstrate that they have learned their lesson and feel terrible. I expect lots of "I take full responsibility" followed by excuses, minimizing, declarations that the accusations were true "to some extent, but not all of them", and explanations that what they actually did was trivial and innocent. "But I take full responsibility!" Just like when Ben Affleck went on TV to say he took full responsibility for unintentionally grazing a woman's boob while giving her an innocent hug.

It's probably never going to come to fruition, but I kind of wish it would, but in a slightly different version where a woman would be included in the discussion where everyone got together and sincerely and seriously talked about the particular crimes of the male guests, how they got to that place and what role the patriarchal society played in keeping them there. It'll never happen because men who commit these crimes are afraid of women at their core, but it would be a great show I tell ya!
