I am completely thrilled that the New Pornographers are coming to town! Since they're more of an alternative supergroup than a real band and their tours seem maddeningly limited, this is very special to me.
Even though I'm 35 and working a full-time job and have a commute and need to get to bed by 11 or I'm a waste the next day, I still forced myself to suck it up on a school night to see VHS or Beta and The Faint. It was worth losing sleep for! Even though the concert was sponsored by the four dancing girls from Camel cigarettes who entertained all of us with their stripper/Britney dances, and the opening act to the opening act was a comic, it was still a blast. VHS or Beta played what sounded like the lost record between Duran Duran's first and second albums, and The Faint? Kick-ass! I had heard but not quite believed that retro electronic music could be rocked on stage this way.
And I second Polygal. The Green Day show I saw this year was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Years from now, I bet those American Idiot shows will be considered their high point.

I just say Third Eye Blind at my school for $12. It was a really great show, and we were pretty close to the stage. They had a lot of energy, and played all the songs I wanted, so I was pretty happy. Matt Nathanson opened for them. I hadn't heard too much about him before, but he's the singer of Laid, a song I was vaguely familiar with somehow. He was great too. It was just him and his guitar, and he was really good at working the crowd. I wasn't some huge 3eb fan, but I knew and liked enough of their songs to go, and I'm glad I did. They are a very underrated band. I don't get the opportunity to go to a lot of concerts, but this made me really appreciate live music, so I'm hoping to go to more.

I saw the Kaiser Chiefs, Weezer and the Foo Fighters on Saturday, and the show was fantastic from beginning to end. If you have floor seats for this show somewhere on the rest of the tour and you really really want to be close to either Rivers Cuomo or Dave Grohl, stake out a spot on the railing at the back of the sound board -- both of them pop up back there for a song and you'll be three feet away.

Sing it, sister!!!
I saw him in Houston on 11/19, I was sick as a dog, could not speak at all, but there was no way I was going to miss that show even if they had to carry me in on a stretcher. I could not cheer, scream, or sing along to Hey, Jude (*sob!*), but it was just a fantastic show, I would not have missed it for anything.
For the next three days "Good Day Sunshine" was the first thing that popped into my head when I woke up.

Oh. My. God. Death Cab for Cutie is coming to my school. I like them fine, but more exciting is the fact that they're opening for Franz Ferdinand! Has anyone been to their concerts? I hope Franz Ferdinand is as good live as they are on their albums. I'm so freaking excited.

The best concert I've ever been to was a double bill of Loverboy and Bachman Turner Overdrive. What made it so awesome was when the lead singer of Loverboy took the microphone and said, "We'll play all your classics in a minute, but first, we want to show you where we've been lately!" Then, just as the crowd began to warm up to a riot, he laughed and said, "Just kidding" before going right into "Turn Me Loose." It was hilarious.
The worst was Lionel Richie. The dude does ten songs from after 2000 and at the end, a four minute medley of all his big hits. The crowd was incredibly pissed off.

I profess to know absolutely zero about Death Cab--I bought the ticket so I could see Franz again. Saw them over the summer and it was quite amazing. Hope they can recreate that energy again.

Dude. So, I went to a fundraiser concert tonight for our local youth emergency shelter (ie. rotten kid time-out place lol) fully expecting the concert to be kind of lame and cheesy. Instead, I discovered The Liverpool Legends. It was seriously one of the best concerts I've been to (and I've attended a LOT of concerts). I had so much fun! We danced, sang along, and just had a hell of a time hanging with Beatle impersonators! They play and sing live, and "George" even gave my middle daughter a guitar pick during the Hey Jude encore! I got to dance to "Paul" singing "I Saw Her Standing There" (He totally winked at me!!! Squee!)! I got to dance to "John" singing "Come Together", and when he forgot the words to the third verse, the audience filled him in! Just awesome. Yes, it's a tribute band, but I got to fulfill all of those daydreams I had about the Beatles when I was 11-13. I'm too young to have even have had a chance at seeing the Beatles perform, even though I always dreamed I would. The Beatles have meant so much to me in my life (I'm 31, btw), it was so awesome to kind of experience the band in a wierd, meta way. ;D ;D ;D *Runs off to DL the White Album onto IPod* SQUEE!

Just had to jump in and say that Mr. esoterica and I saw The Pogues last week. They were at the 930 Club here in DC and I paid a whopping $50 each for our tickets. That being said, after seeing them, I can safely say that I would pay much more to see them again. That was easily the best show I've ever seen in my life and I've seen a LOT of shows!
