Oooh, esoterica, I love the Pogues! Was Shane MacGowan there? You're so lucky, I would love to see them live. Now you've got me thinking about them, I'm going to have to get their CDs out and have a Poguefest.

Best concert I've ever been to?? easy. September 3rd, 2005, at the Colosseum in Rome, FREE Elton John concert. I was in Florence for 4 months and had been there for only a few days, and found out about this concert, hopped a train, somehow found a hostel for the night, saw the Colosseum and the Forum and all that, then camped out until the concert. The concert itself was in front of the Colosseum and they blocked off the whole street leading up to it - we got there around 3 and he started at 9ish. We somehow ended up only about 60 feet from the stage, so we didn't realize how many people were there behind us. Turns out, my roommate and I were two out of 500,000 people. Crazy. After his 2 hour (!) set, it took us another 45 minutes or so until we could even start heading back to our hostel. The concert was great though, he is an amazing performer.
a couple other favorite concerts of mine have been Phil Collins' First Final Farewell Tour (the backstage passes may have helped make that one so great), and, as has been said before, Green Day's American Idiot. You can't beat smoking a bowl with friends and strangers to "Are We the Waiting".
My school also has some amazing concerts - some bands I have seen for free are: The Killers (with Tegan and Sara opening), Social Distortion, Jimmy Eat World, Common, Goldfinger, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Phantom Planet, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, the Walkmen, 311, and Sugarcult. We may suck at sports, but dammit, we have good concerts.
oh, and that Liverpool Legends post reminded me of this club in Florence called BeBop that had a Beatles cover band every Tuesday, and I also saw a great Oasis cover band there.

Hell yeah! Incoherent as ever! It was all the original lineup. Their encore was "Fairytale of New York" of course, and the daughter of one of the band members sang Kristy MacColl's part. They bumped down the lights and Shane danced with her at the end. I admit it - I cried it was so wonderful!
Shane was a trip throught the whole thing, getting drunker and drunker and sounding better and better. I just wish they had allowed in cameras, since I would love to have pics of him balancing his beer glass on his head and singing "A Pair of Brown Eyes."

Oh, I would just about kill to see a Pogues show!
The best concert I ever saw was Afghan Whigs at Tipitinas in 1993. Awesome performance. Blew me away! Tied for second place are the two Flaming Lips shows I've seen (one in 1993 and one in 1995). Both were incredible experiences.
I'm excited to be seeing The Phoenix Foundation this June in NYC. They're supposed to be playing three shows and I'll be at all three of them. They're a New Zealand band trying to break into the US market and I really hope they gain some success here so I can get their CDs a little more easily in the future. I don't mind ordering from NZ, but the shipping time is murder on my need for instant gratification!

I was only there for Radiohead, anyway. *faints* My best show ever was U2 back in 1992 - the Zoo TV Tour. It was in a gigantic stadium, and yet it felt as intimate as a tiny pub. Bloody amazing.

You saw Zoo TV? Lucky! I shall now go off and cry with the angst of a newbie fan who was too young at the time to care about any music besides Raffi. (That said, Raffi made some pretty cool kid tapes.)

Hmm..Interesting. Only because now that you two have pointed out I am old, I will be a curmudgeon.
I saw U2 in 1984 at a small (1000-2000) person venue. Then I saw them at a 60, 000 plus seat stadium twice. Although they were good at both, I just never felt it was the same. Of course, in 1984 I was god's gift to the world and had discovered U2 way back in 1980. I had Boy in 1980 (I was 11) and October the next year, because of an older hockey player I knew, who had an older brother. I was da man. War came out and I got it right away. Yep, 6 foot 4 inches 140 lbs acne, glasses and braces...But I was da man. Now, I think maybe Zoo TV was just as good as the first tour I saw them on, and I was just a snot. Nope. It was my first show and it rocked.

U2 Zoo TV tour. No other concert will ever compare to me. I sat 30th row dead center. Complete sensory overload, I had a smile on my face for an hour after that show.
Saw them 1987 Joshua Tree Zoo TV tour ATYCLB Tour 3 nights in a row HTDAAB Tour
After the last one, I really wish they would just retire a few songs and play some other old songs. A girl came on stage and played Party Girl which made my night.
I wished I could have seen the famous Red Rocks concert. If I could only go back in time....
Oh and Deadduck bite me on finding them first. ;D

Oh dude...Live at Red Rocks...AWESOME! Wish I had been there. Since I had a clue who they were, I could have. Unlike *cough* Topher *cough*
Best Live Album EVAH! Under a Blood Red Sky. Now for all the obvious Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd shots to the head. Whoops---That would be on another bored board.
