I saw Rick Astley on Wednesday night. He sounded great! He put on a really fun show, playing the hits and a few new songs, plus a couple of fun covers. He talked a fair amount and was quite funny. I went because my friend was interested, and I'm so glad I did. I highly recommend it.

I finally saw Snow Patrol in concert!!!! AHHHHHH! Yay for no longer being a struggling fresh graduate and finally having disposable income so I can see one of my favorite bands. I love them! I can't wait until they announce their official tour dates, I'd go see them again. So jealous. Seeing SP is on my bucket list. OMG! GO! They announced during the concert they're going to announce a bigger tour. Luckily, I live in LA and they said they'd be back during the tour.

Saw Parker Millsap at the House of Blues in New Orleans last night and he was amazing. We upgraded to VIP seats for cheap so we were up close and seated at a table. Could not have asked for a better show.
A good friend flew in from St. Louis to see the show with me and we're going to have fun traipsing about in the French Quarter this morning.

The Beach Boys!
They are half way through a very long tour. One of the best concerts I’ve been to in ages, including their own for the past 20 years!
We are “friends of the band”, so we had dinner before the concert (Thursday night) with Mike Love, and had an hour on the tour bus with Mike, Bruce Johnston and the guys the next morning before they left. Their new program director was with The Four Seasons, and Jersey Boys, and I think he is responsible for the tighter show.
They are on their way to England, where it looks like they will be getting a much bigger reception than the US...kind of a Beatles/Beach Boys revisited honorary guests of the country kind of reception.
An amazingly energetic show for a bunch of old farts!

Going to see Parker Millsap in May in Austin at Antone's. I'm trying to get a friend or two to go, but if no one can go, I'll do this by myself and will make a long weekend of it. I used to live in Austin, so I know my way around. I'm a bit dubious about going to the show alone, but other than that, I'm really looking forward to the trip, alone or not. Also, a former supervisor lives there now, so I'll probably catch up with her while I'm visiting. ETA: One friend said yes and another might go with us! So excited about this. I saw him last year in New Orleans and it was an awesome show.

A few weeks ago, my inner 12 year old compelled me to spend money I didn't really have on a pair of tickets to drag MissP kicking and screaming to see Kiss in Cleveland on St Patrick's day. She is not enthused.
Well, my buddy from high school that was always my partner in concert-going, sent me a video of the opening song of the tour the other night in Vancouver (YouTube; he wasn't there), with the message "What the ACTUAL fuck?!?! I became 10 years old again!"
I shit you not, Greecies, I haven't been this excited to see Kiss since the first time in 1979....

Enjoy!

To really maximize MissP's annoyance on Sunday, I have searched high and low in our house for my Dynasty Tour '79 t-shirt. At this point, P is the only one in the house it would fit (although TrafficChick's...um...assets... would balloon Gene and Paul's faces in elaborate ways). No luck, but I did find a couple shirts from the 90s reunion tours that'll have to do.
I think she has forgotten all about it, in the excitement of her impending school play. Hee hee!
ETA: the Morning After.
She was epically miserable as we took our seats. Seats that, in fact were NOT the ones I chose at purchase. I always try to buy seats at the back of the hall and upstairs, especially for Kiss, to take in the full spectacle, and because the mix is usually better back there. We were seated on Gene's side, in the middle of the second section back. As a teenager, I would have killed for seats here, but now, it's too close to the PA stacks for me.
Anyway, our seats were in the club level. If you have ever seen a Cavs home game, the arena has 3 "bowls" a lower level near the floor, the middle ring, and an upper bowl. The club level is accessible only by elevator. I assume there are stairs somewhere, but only in emergencies. Their existence is emphatically denied when you ask for them. Our elevator was so full, sardines would have complained. That set MissP off immediately.
The opener was a painter. Seriously. An artist named David Garibaldi (NOT the drummer of Tower of Power). Best described as a heavy metal Bob Ross, he painted three black canvasses (in 20 minutes) choreographed to music by the artist he was painting, he did a Slash, a Springsteen, and oddly enough Kiss in front of a Cleveland skyline, no idea where he got THAT idea...
MissP was fascinated by him. And relieved it wasn't another awful band that daddy would like that she had to sit through.
As we waited, the little drama queen brought her A-game out, and started sobbing and begging to leave. I got annoyed enough to text Traffic to come get her (she was at a St Paddy's party on the east side of Cleveland), but her response was "suck it up, buttercup."
She hid her face in my jacket as the video screens began scanning the crowd, and super-imposing Kiss makeup on attendees.
I had finally lost my patience with her attempts to manipulate me into leaving, and snapped at her "I paid $200 for these tickets. I am gonna see at least ONE song before we leave! Get over yourself! If you would just stop winding yourself up about not wanting to be here you might find that even if you don't like the songs, the show is amazing and you will enjoy it!"
The show proper opened with "Detroit Rock City", with the frontline descending from the rigging as bombs and jets of fire and sparks exploded on the downbeats. She was annoyed by the explosions, but steeled herself. And we stayed. And she gradually turned in her seat to actually watch. A few songs later, she started leaning a bit to see around the inevitable douchebag in front if me (always and only me-everywhere else, no one stood) who never sits down. Why, she even clapped at the end of Eric Singer's drum solo. The ice was melting. The Kiss Army was gaining another (albeit reluctant) recruit.
Then somebody near us sparked a fat one. I told her that, while I've never fallen for the allure of pot, I have always liked the smell of good dope. She made a passable attempt to seem as though this was the first time she had smelled it.🙄
We saw Tommy Thayer use his version of the rocket launching Les Paul to shoot out some stage lights, though his guitar did not smoke from the intensity of his hot licks. We saw Gene breathe fire AND spit blood. Mercifully, Paul kept at least his vest on.
After God of Thunder, she started complaining that her throat was feeling like it was closing up. She hadn't been crying for over an hour, so that wasn't it.
Then it occurred to me: I think MissP is allergic to pot!
She had just noticed the crane rigging with a mic stand hanging above us, and I think she wanted see that (I sure did!), but since I had no benadryl or epi pen, my paternal instincts made me accept defeat, and leave as the band started Psycho Circus. By the time we made it to the car and out of the parking deck, her throat was ok.
Oh well, at least I never have to take her to an overpriced concert again!
ETA II: The next night.
Tonight (24 hrs after the show) as she was going to bed, I showed her the YouTube video of RnR All Night, featuring the crane riser finale. It freaked her out, but she did admit that right before the guy fired up his joint, she was starting to enjoy the concert.
Hah! Told her so!

Adam Ant will be on tour in the fall. Will be playing all of “Friend or Foe”. I still haven’t decided to go or not.

Loved him so much back in the day, I played that album over and over again. I saw him live once, so long ago that his opening act was a new band called INXS. I feel so old.
