Word to everyone who mentioned Jeff Buckley and Ella Fitzgerald.
I love the gravel in Tom Waits' voice. I think it's a love-it-or-hate-it thing there (and if you hate it, you're dead to me). His voice makes the emotions in his songs all too real, and it gives the right amount of twistedness for his funnier bits too. None of that Autotuner prefab for him.
I'm putting David Bowie on my list too. Both his speaking and singing voice just ooze sex.
Rob Halford of Judas Priest. I'm dying to see him and Mariah Carey in a contest to see who can hit the highest note.
Etta James. I think that one is self-explanitory.

Word to Jeff Buckley. But also, Trent Reznor. My God, listening to "With Teeth" the man can sing. Sigh.

Hehe. I think Mary J is awesome and has an awesome voice.
But I just love Dido's voice (and lyrics). I can listen to the whole album of Life for Rent over and over.

I am probably in the minority with this; I love Kate Pierson's voice.

I am probably in the minority with this; I love Kate Pierson's voice. You're totally not! "Candy" with Iggy Pop was AWESOME! She can belt it, man!

Oh, I love Kate Pierson! When I was in fourth grade, everyone wanted to be Madonna - I wanted to be Kate.
I loved the kind of unusual harmonies she and Cindy Wilson did.

Candy, somehow winds up on all my mix CDs. The first time I heard it, (helping a friend deejay at Indiana University's student radio station) I was blown away by Kate's voice.
