I can't stand Lorde. Since she was on SNL last night I thought I'd listen to her and give her a chance, but I had to mute it halfway through the first song. She's pretentious as hell, her lyrics are stupid, and I hate her monotone delivery. This is how I feel about Lana del Rey - only add in flat to monotone. Blah.

The different types of pretentiousness might make for an interesting study, except that I don't really care enough about either of them.

Lana del Rey is not hailed as the musical genius that Lorde is, but I do find that song "Young and Beautiful" quite nice and it was a really good part of The Great Gatsby, so I can't hate.

Lorde is hailed as a musical genius? Damn, I've missed a lot not living in the USA!

I don't particularly care for Lana del Rey either but for some reason her music is a total earworm for me. Hearing music I feel "meh" about play over and over in my head is unpleasant.

I don't think most consider her a genius; I think she just gets extra credit for being less vapid than most young singers, and many people, including some critics (and non-critics like me) like her music and appreciated that she had a different sound than a lot of current music. I'm curious to hear the new album to see if she's continued to grow or if it's more of the same/stagnant.

So, imagine my surprise, when looking up two relatively new songs I like quite a bit, only to find I'm like a teenager. I like Selena Gomez's Bad Liar, and that Slow Hands song by that One Direction Niall kid. I actually winced when I read his birthdate. Oh, well.

I still say that whoever really did the singing for Milli Vanilli should have been allowed to keep the Grammy. Blame it on the Rain is still awesome.

No one cared when "The Archies" had a hit. (FTR, I kinda like the remake of "Sugar Sugar" on Riverdale, with Josie and the Pussycats.) Speaking if which, if the Riverdale 'cats do a version of "3 Small Words" from the Rachel Leigh Cook/Tara Reid movie, I may swoon.
