My unpopular opinion? NSYNC was a freakin great pop group. Seriously, I would be first in line to be a new CD from them.

U2 is now - and always has been - vastly overrated. Plus, I hate Bono.

NSYNC had great harmony. Much better than the Backstreet Boys for sure! I always liked their music but never could admit to liking the band. Too much shame for me to handle.

I never realized how many people disliked Bono and U2 in general. I never really cared for them one way or the other. But I always thought that any band that wants to try to change the world has to be good somewhere along the line. I agree on Coldplay. U2 is now - and always has been - vastly overrated. Plus, I hate Bono.

In total agreement on The Rolling Stones and U2. I don't hate them, I just think they're overrated. If I hate a band or singer (hey there, Joss Stone) I usually can't stand any of their music. (As in, I'd rather have root canal surgery performed through my nostrils than listen to one of their albums). For bands like the Stones and U2, though, there are songs of theirs that I really, really like. It's just that when I total up the stuff that I like and compare it the volume of work they've released, it comes out to something like 3% (versus the remaining 97% that just leaves me cold). Hence, overrated.
Not true. They have the world's most annoying lead singer. And that's a category fraught with some serious competition.

I don't get the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I like some of their older stuff, but their last two albums were so freaking overplayed and I just don't understand why. Did their label pay off the radio conglomerates to the extent that their boring new stuff had to played once an hour?
As far as Coldplay goes, it's not so much that I hate the band, I hate how their fans think they're soooo smart for liking the stuff. It's very similar to how I feel about The Da Vinci Code, actually.

I totally agree! I love Blood Sugar Sex Magik but most of their stuff after that is just boring (The Zephyr Song - zzzzzzzz).
Count me in on not understanding Coldplay's appeal too.

I never thought I'd find someone who shared my thoughts on Bono, Nirvana, and Led Zepplin. I loved U2 until Joshua Tree. I think Bono is such a sanctimonious fuck. Nirvana was alright to me, guess I just don't fully appreciate their impact.
I do, however, lurve Neil Diamond. True about the stupid lines, though.

Man, I find this thread refreshing. Music, moreso than any other artform, makes people so judgemental. You can like diverse types of movies, or painters or anything like that, but the bands and genres that you like will be held against you forever. Seriously, in high school I was in fear that what I enjoyed was lame as hell and if I voiced "the new Britney song is coming up, *don't* change the station", it would be curtains for me! I remember spending so much time sitting down *trying* to like the same bands as everyone else, and being bored crapless. I finally had to accept it. Coldplay, the Verve, Maroon 5 and all them are all the same thing to me. I can't really distinguish. Does that genre have a name? I think "meh" is the only way to do justice to those bands made up of boys, that *aren't* boy bands.
So, anyone that wants to tell me Britney's music isn't powerful? Ha! Even when trying with every fibre of my being not to like it I could not resist its thrall.
So yeah, pretty much name any lame wussy singer or band who totally sold out and goes after the lowest common denominator and chances are they are my bread and butter.
ps. hmm. In fear of seeming like the typical internet user with a horrible high school life and no friends, fear not! I loved my high school and friends and they loved me! But music. That could have been the deal breaker...

I truly have found my people on this thread. Coldplay is on my radio right now. A horrible horrible band. Just like The Dave Matthews Band. The songs all sound the freaking same. I do like Christina Aguilera and I'm 28. It just seems to be a little out of my age demographic. But lots of pop music is great for the working out. I'm actually fairly neutral on U2 andBono. I kind of like their music especially their older stuff, but they do irritate me with the constant preaching about poverty and stuff. Yeah, it's good to be aware of that stuff and I'm glad they are socially aware, but sometimes pop singers need to stop assuming that it is their job to explain to me how the world is or how horrible poverty is. I think I kind of know that already, my darlings.
