I love that too! The Monkees didn't get enough respect (they don't even make the spell check) because they were that TV group. Stepping Stone and Words are awesome songs.
I'm actually living outside of a cold climate for the first time in my life (except for a few southern CA years WAY back when), and I'm having trouble with the whole holiday thing as well. Maybe that's why I'm listening to so much Louis Armstrong Christmas stuff.

I can't stand most holiday music sung by contemporary pop artists like Mariah Carey and One Direction. At work I shuffle some of Pandora's Christmas stations like Indie Christmas, Celtic Christmas and Jazz Christmas. They're a nice alternative to the radio cheese.

I still have the NKOTB Christmas album...somewhere. Have a Funky, Funky Christmas, y'all!

As I got out of my car today, Santa Baby was playing. Don't know who was singing. When I got back in the car a little over an hour later, a different version of Santa Baby was playing. Is the pool of Christmas music that small that the same song needs to be played within 2 hours?

The only version of Santa Baby I like, since the one done by Eartha Kitt, was done by Everclear.
The Little Drummer Boy drives me mad. As sublime as the Bowie/Crosby version was, the whole "every child must be made to care" part sets me off something awful (and for some reason, I still like the Bob Seger version better).
I guess it's because I don't really like "traditional" Christmas music. I like it more when pop stars write stuff that's theirs (Mariah's "All I Want for Christmas" or Elton's "Step Into Christmas" are perfect examples). It just feels more genuine than just doing a traditional song, because it's just more lazy to me. There are only so many ways you can make certain songs interesting or reminding me how on the nose they are (like every big-voiced singer covering "O Holy Night").

I don't know how I made it to age 42 without hearing this song, but I just cried so hard, I wish I could un-hear it. Naturally, I decided to share it with all of you.

My new favorite Christmas song Merry Christmas Exclamation Point. My favorite line is: "If you’re thinking about calling me to thank me oh please don’t. (That’s not how this works) Texting is as far as this relationship goes (And keep your (in box) brief)"

Fabulous, cabbagekid! Rasputina/Melora Creager has released some Xmas music: God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen and for those of you who like your Xmas music both freaky and didactic, here's The Cult of the Virgin.

I can't hear any version of "The Little Drummer Boy" without hearing Chris Farley yell "WELL RUM PA PUM PUM!!!" in the back of my mind.

Note on radio programming:
Hey, Clear Channel! When my six year old is tired of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town", you're playing it too much.
Also, regardless of version, a regular topic of conversation is the number of times in a day we hear "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree."
