Thank you, chiquita! I normally don't dig deep into source material, and I suppose it's reasonable to argue that perhaps Mary didn't know that the son of god would walk on water, but the rest was made pretty clear. I agree; she may not have realized all the specifics, but she wasn't clueless/oblivious. The first public miracle was at the wedding in Cana, when she said, "Son, they're out of wine. Fix it."

I hear a song on the radio at this time of year and cannot figure out the name. They don't p,at it a lot and I don't listen to the radio a lot, so not much chance to hear it thoroughly. I just want to look up the lyrics. It's kind of Irish/Maritime-y in style and is of the same nature as the The Twelve Days of Christmas, in that it adds a new item to each stanza. It's very swingy and upbeat, but all I can vaguely recall from the lyrics is something like "what did you bring me?" Anyone? Edited to add that I figured it out: Come and I Will Sing You by Great Big Sea. Have a listen... m.youtube.com/watch?v=zHx6Idga4ww

For some reason, "Wonderful Christmastime" is the epic Xmas Jam/running joke between my brother and sister, to the point that a few years back, when we were all far apart (Me in NM, Sis in IL for grad school, Bro in Alaska or Afghanistan), I heard it playing in the store and I was all, "YES! It is officially Christmastime!" For some reason, it is so cheesy it is sublime. Then again, I am 2 drinks into Xmas afternoon...

Good job ruining "Last Christmas" for Gen Xers, 2016! You stupid fucking year. Even my nine year old son was all, how can he die on Christmas when he sang a Christmas song??

"I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" is obnoxious but cute when sung by, say whoever Gayla Peevey was. But LeAnn Rimes upped the loudness, the obnoxiousness, the cacophony-ness of the song. Gird your ears!

I must have passed from my bah humbuggy phase and I'm now all christmassy and glittery of spirit seeing as I've landed in the Christmas songs thread!
My go too fav songs are all tinged now with sadness as they be Fairytale of New York , Last Christmas and Little Drummer Boy (Bowie and Bing version). Amazingly Shane MacGowan is the one still with us he will be 60 on Christmas day!

Shane’s endurance is the truest Christmas miracle of our time.
I really can’t believe it. Another thing: I was at a cocktail-type Work party a few weeks ago and I made an offhand remark about Shane*, and the short version of the story is that I found myself explaining the whole Pogues lore. They had vaguely heard of Fairytale of New York but the whole teeth/six months to live/folk punk/ Celtic Twilight poetry thing was unfamiliar. I guess it shouldn’t have been unexpected but when it’s on my list of faves it was weird and sad.
*we were talking about gold prosthetic teeth for cats and dogs.

So, against all odds, I'm feeling very festive and feeling like making this a great holiday. I downloaded Michael Buble's Christmas album. Not impressed. He sounds drunk and lazy. My kids could make a better album. Bah humbug to you, Michael!

So BBC4 had a christmasy Top of the Pops past sort of thing and Band Aid clearly featured but rather hilariously a bit random and with TOTPs gloriously brilliantly bad lip synching in full view Paul Weller = Bono, but its just wonderfully 80s who's who ! Boy George bought his A game😁 edit Ed Sheeran doing Fairytale of New York no,nope, no way in hell yuck ..utterly soulless and empty, yuck! Its probably on utube but I wouldn't bother...
