Everything is awful everywhere, so I'm starting my holiday-themed music listening early this year. Minnesota Public Radio does an annual Holiday Stream, and they started it today. It's hosted by the classical station, so there's no chance of being blindsided by "The Christmas Shoes." And it's not just Christmas - I just heard an orchestral version of "Ein Feste Burg."

I feel ya on that, but Thanksgiving is the earliest it can be this year so I'm changing out my playlist for late fall until then, but in three weeks it's gonna be all Christmas all the time. My favorite recent(ish)- just realized it's eight years old now!- is Annie Lennox Christmas Cornucopia. Anyone have some other recommendations?

I was flipping through Sirius this afternoon, and there it was: Last Christmas by Wham!.

I haven’t heard anything new, Xmas-wise, but I guess this counts: today’s spin instructor played All I Want for Christmas by Mariah Carey during class. I thought I was safe—I’ve already heard Wonderful Christmas time in public (sigh). Spin class is supposed to be a safe space!

Speaking of the McCartney abomination, the wife sent me a meme that helps.
It explains the song as a coven of witches preparing for some pagan ritual, then as they sing “simply having...” someone walks in on them and they have to play it cool “...a wonderful krim-matime...!”
(See what I did there?🌲)
ETA: Sorry, narm! Gotta fight the war on Krim-ma. 😜

Haha! Worst song ever! I saw that meme, too. I shared with a former colleague who hates the song, too.
However, I heard a Hanson cover (thought it was the Jonas Bros) and it’s nowhere near as bad. It’s tolerable.

Has anyone been subjected to "I Want a Hippopatomus for Christmas" yet? It's an old song, from the 1940s maybe, that was recently resurrected and been covered by some modern artists.

I haven’t heard that one this year. The original recording is just awful enough that it doesn’t get played in public regularly—it’s the Christmas version of Lil Bocephus.
ETA: On Thursday, my BFF from college texted me and asked why on earth people thought Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen and the 10 zillion cover artists was a Christmas song. I shook my head, zipped up my coat and went out to a citywide networking thing...where someone had put Hallelujah on the playlist, alongside a lot of other holiday music. Ugghhhh...I think this is a hill I'm going to have to die on.
My favorite the last few days has been Salva Nos, but I don't know if that's strictly a Christmas song, either.

Do you really think it's that bad? Lil Bocephus is like 'kill it with fire' bad but I Want a Hippopotamus doesn't make me want to chew my arm off until at least the 3rd time I hear it! I can't figure out why Darlene Love's Christmas Baby Please Come Home isn't played a whole lot more than it is.
