Kids these days (God, I'm old) love Nirvana and NWA. I love when they try to school me on it. At the high school where I teach, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a student without a Nirvana or NWA t-shirt. I guess NWA was more 80s, but still.
Luscious Jackson, anyone? Also, I cannot *believe* how hard and how far hearing "You Oughtta Know" takes me back.

I made a joke about Jay Kay's hat to my hairdresser and got a blank look. I know Jamiroquai wasn't big in the US, but also considering hairdresser hadn't heard of Trainspotting, I shriveled extra hard inside my heart. I loved Jamiroquai. Just as a side note, Jay Kay's wax statue in the Rock and Roll wax museum in London is freakishly life-like. It's the only one I've ever stared at waiting for it to blink. Seriously. It looks like a real-life person.

I also owned Freedy Johnston's This Perfect World Oh mannnnn, that album! I wore it out back in the day! Bad Reputation and Disappointed Man have been in rotation on many, many playlists throughout the years.

Luscious Jackson, anyone? Hey, the very source of my user name! Alas, I am not actually a sexy hypnotist.

Wow, I was about the age of these teens when "Smells like teen Spirit" video had originally came out. Now Kurt's own daughter is older than them. [/ showing my age] I kind of want them to rock out a little harder when they hear the music. That's what I am tempted to do.

A gaming friend hooked me up to Canned Heat by Jamiroquai the other day... now I can't stop listening to it. Is it the extended version of it? Because that's the JAM. The radio edit just kills the overall feel of the song. I think it was the version played in "Centerstage" during the finale number, but it's a great work out song, too. And just to make a mention, there was an 80s/90s thread created and closed, but mentioned how I loved cassette singles as a kid/teen instead of the original full-length albums. No, I'm not insane and if you went to the right place, you could get them for $1.50 a pop. If there were a few songs I liked on an album, I'd opt for the whole deal, but tell me that there wasn't a ton of one-hit-wonders in the 80s and 90s that didn't really need my hard earned money for some shitty 10 song album. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not all that different from those that buy singles off of iTunes for practically the same price. I stand by it and find that I have more single cassettes in a box then I do the albums.

I don't know if it is the extended version, I've only heard the version I already owned I my iPod (from decades of album trading with friends and acquaintances) from the original album. I never even heard that song before until he linked it during a guild mission, so that tells you how much of my music I ignore.

That song and Weezer's "Sweater" were on constant rotation in my car (a powder blue 88 Honda Civic) the summer of 1994. Oh and Sam Phillips' "I Need Love".
