Anyone remember Matthew Sweet? I was always waiting for him to become bigger. I loved him, back in 92. Sigh, that was a loooooong time ago, but seems like just a few years. I'm in heavy denial, I think. Coincidentally, I was just thinking about his music the other day. I'm surprised he wasn't more famous, too.

box, how funny! I actually picked up his Girlfriend cd the other day in a bargain bin. I think it still sounds great. It could pass for being released today, IMO.

I watched Janeane Garofalo's comedy special yesterday and it put me in a 90's mood. I put in my old DVD of "MTV's 25 Lamest" with commentary from her, Dennis Leary, Jon Stewart, and Chris Kattan with the epic moment of Vanilla Ice losing his shit. The best part was Chris Kattan yelling out "No Vanilla! Vanilla!" like that's his name. I saw Vanilla Ice on the Today show recently and did a double take. I guess he's got a show on cable somewhere and has managed to get his life in order after all the ridicule and pent up anger he carried. So, hey, good for him. I remember watching that MTV special over and over back in the day. They all looked so genuinely shocked when Vanilla freaked out.

I owned the cassette, back in the day. I also owned Freedy Johnston's This Perfect World, and sometimes had a hard time telling them apart.
Those songs would pop up on Scrubs on a regular basis, along with Counting Crows. It was nice to hear those poppy songs that I probably didn't admit to my friends at the time that I liked, but I did.

Freedy Johnston used to live in my area-his now ex-wife was an employee/student at the university I attended and we had a class together. I loved "Bad Reputation" so I always was a little awestruck.

Aw, don't be ashamed of Counting Crows. "August and Everything After" was a great (if depressing) CD. It was everywhere when I was in college.

I love the kid who was shocked that they sounded the same live as on the album. But still amazing that kids who were born after Cobain died are totally into Nirvana.

And a lot of them either didn't know that he was dead or the manner in which he died. It's the music that has endured and not the tragedy of Kurt's life and death, which is a tribute to his talent.

I made a joke about Jay Kay's hat to my hairdresser and got a blank look. I know Jamiroquai wasn't big in the US, but also considering hairdresser hadn't heard of Trainspotting, I shriveled extra hard inside my heart.
