I listened to a lot of grunge in the 90s, particularly Nirvana. I was also listened to Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.
And for my embarrassing 90s music, Cathy Dennis ("Touch Me (All Night Long) and Deee-lite ("Groove is in the Heart").
Lollapalooza '92 was one of the best concerts I went to, but more recently, the lineups have sucked.

Brought over from the Avatar thread, because it fits here more :
I was updating my MP3 player and went into a grunge frenzy - it included Alice In Chains and I remembered how I used to [and still do, actually] put Layne Staley's voice separate from the rest just because it is so haunting. So a Layne avatar it is. By the way, my mother was so right - this music does make you gloomy. How can you just play vocals? You're so right about his voice, and the gloominess of the music. Since his death the gloominess has increased.
I meant that I put him apart from the other singers, like Vedder, Cobain, Weiland, and Cornell [although, to be honest, Cornell is my favorite of the bunch]. It was just different - I don't know how to explain it. I think it could partly be explained due to the band itself being heavier/darker than the other groups, but the voice by itself is different.

"Would" by Alice in Chains is still one of my all-time favorite songs. Especially this part:

One of my favorites from the '90s is "Flagpole Sitta." I was also an unapologetic fan of grunge. Pearl Jam, Screaming Trees, Mudhoney...and basically just about everything on the "Singles" soundtrack.
Shut-up!

"Flagpole Sitta" is a lot of fun. I liked Harvey Danger.
As for grunge, well, I will never, ever, neverneverevernever apologize for liking it.

It's funny, I used to love grunge but when I listen to Nirvana and Pearl Jam now it just feels so...dated. Like it just doesn't belong anymore. Even 80's new wave and synth pop is more enjoyable to listen to.
Perhaps that's just a reflection of the way popular music has gone in the days since grunge.

Oooh. I understand now, though re-reading that it makes more sense. Thanks for the explanation though. I don't like most Nirvana stuff anymore, because it sounds dated to me too. Pearl Jam and AIC can too but I still like both, especially AIC's ballads. They don't sound dated to me at all. Most bands today wish they could release something so good.

When I think about 90s music, the first thing that comes to mind is the one and only MC Hammer. So (early) 90s it's not funny.
And for all the MS-CL lovers out there, did you know that there was a soundtrack released in late '94/early '95? I still have it, though I haven't listened to it in ages; I might have to pull it out again and listen to it.
