I just know I have a Mazzy Star tape somewhere. Must go find it. I only got it because Shirley Manson recommended it in Rolling Stone or something. ETA: It's Among My Swan. Which reminds me that I only got The Bends by my (now) ultra-beloved Radiohead because Roland Orzabal (of Tears For Fears) recommended it also. Wow - thank you forever and ever, Roland! You've changed my life!

"She's My Baby" is my favorite Mazzy Star song. That's as close to rocking out as Hope Sandoval will ever get!
Speaking of: Does anyone like Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions? I love her work with Mazzy Star, but I've never heard anything from after they split up.

I went from crying over not getting tickets to Boyz II Men in the early 90s to my first concert being Smashing Pumpkins/Garbage a few years later, so I was all over the map. But I still have the first two CDs I ever bought-Mariah Carey's Music Box and The Bodyguard sountrack, back when I thought Whitney's version of "I will always love you" was good.

It is because of this thread that I just made a very Mazzy Star heavy mix called the "Autumn Mix" for when I go to school and am moving in. Should be thoroughly depressing. Oh, and I added a little of The Cranberries in there for good measure. Which made me think of My So Called Life again. The Sundays are on there too, and now I'm on a downloading spree. I forgot how much I love to listen to women with quiet voices that are full of despair.

Ah, 90s music, my one true love. Total word to the Garbage love (and My So-Called Life!). I'm on a big Nirvana kick right now, incidentally.

Wow, aidansmom, it's funny you mentioned that. I can only listen to that Mazzy Star CD in autumn....burning cinnamon apple candles...drinking coffee after coffee...and moping. Reminds me of living in my first apartment...
And I'm not saying moping is a bad things. Sometimes you just have to do it!

Yeah but the 90s were all about moping. It was great!

90s SP and Garbage? That's what my heaven must be like. I have three Mazzy Star albums, and iirc, that's all there is. Fade Into You never gets old. I also really love Into Dust, and Flowers in December. (An excellent Mazzy Star Site here if you're interested.) The Soundtrack to Romeo + Juliet is fantastic. Garbage, Cardigans, Des'ree, Everclear, Radiohead, Wannadies. Then there's the soundtrack to Cruel Intentions with Blur, Placebo, Cardigans, Marcy Playground, Fatboy Slim, Counting Crows. Come to think of it, those are probably my two favorite soundtracks ever.

90s SP and Garbage? That's what my heaven must be like. I got tickets the day of and I was so excited. Although, it was the tour that was posponed after Jonathan Melvoin died, so that part of it sucked.
