My uncle is a semi-professional trumpet player, and he played with the organist for our wedding. We had Ave Maria for the bridesmaids' walk (to convince my grandmother we were in a Catholic, not united, church), Trumpet Voluntary for the processional, and .... I can't remember for the recessional, although it was three weeks ago.
For the first dance we used Open Window (The Wedding Song) by Sarah Harmer. No one but us at the wedding had heard of it, but we got lots of compliments.

My husband and I eloped, so we didn't have a wedding song, per se. But we sent out mini CD's to our family with a song to mark the occasion.
The song? "On Your Shore" by Enya.
Don't get it? Check my location to the left. Well, it's a lovely song anyway, and most people are surprised to hear Mr. Wolf was the one who picked it.

When my roommate got married she wanted their first dance to be "Moondance." So, when the time came she gave a little mini-speech about how this song keeps popping up in their relationship, but she told the story without mentioning the song. So they took the dance floor and waited for me (I was helping with the music) to start the song. Well, apparently one of the other people working the music area had messed with the CD, because I started up Pink's "Get This Party Started." It was pretty hilarious and they started dancing to it without missing a beat.
What was even funnier was that when I finally queued up "Moondance," the mic we were using to amplify the music was also messed up so it would start screeching at random moments-- like the type of hi-pitched sonar that would kill dolphins. People were going "Awwwww!" Screech!!! "Aaaaa!"

My husband and I got married before he deployed to Afghanistan so we first danced to Aerosmith's I don't Wanna Miss a Thing then before we left to go on our honeymoon we danced to Chantel Kreviazuk's version of Leaving on a jet plane. Both songs used in Armageddon, our first date movie. The best Music I heard at a wedding recipton that is, was Kissing You (from Romeo and Juliet) sang during the first dance of a Themed "romeo and Juliet" Wedding.I also like the Corrs Runaway as well. Though I swear if i ever hear Celine(I married Grandpa) Dion's damn song from titanic at one more wedding I May just start slam dancing to it in sheer frustration.

My fiance and I are doing a tango to a song called Bahia Blanca which means White Bay, which really means nothing to us. We just wanted to do a tango. We're spicy like that.
I just found out my mid50s, traditional red state Midwestern Dad is taking dancing lessons for our first dance. My mom found an accapella version of "My Girl" and I think it sounds so sweet. My Dad does.not.dance. He is king of the slow dance shuffle. So the fact that he is taking lessons is a very big deal.

My boyfriend caught me reading this thread the other day and instead of the obligatory freak-out at the thought of a wedding he simply said, "I think our first dance should be to 'He's A Tramp' from Lady and the Tramp." I just started laughing and agreed. It's probably the only thing he'd ever get to plan since my family always takes over any wedding they're involved in, so why shouldn't he have it? At least it's original.

I am getting married in March 2008 and we have had our first dance song--Oh Darling by the Beatles--picked out for awhile. My idea for what to dance to my dad with is Landslide but I think it's kind of weird. But recessional? Bridal party intro? Ceremony music? I'm totally stumped.

I really have no suggestions, but I would just like to say that I don't think Landslide is weird at all. I plan to dance with my father to that very song when I get married.

I'll listen to just about anything in a wedding, but please, please, please could people stop with the Pachabel's Cannon in D? Classical musicians spend their whole lives hounded by this song and many (myself included) would be happy to never hear it again. /rant
I don't plan on getting married ever, but if I did, I would have to find someway to work some Moulin Rogue in there. I know "Complainte de la Butte" is about a prostitute, but it's so beautiful (and if I used the all-French version, maybe no one would know). Plus, either "Your Song" or "Elephant Love Medely" has to be in there somewhere.
Hm. Maybe it's a good thing I'm not getting married.

Thank god someone agrees with me about Pachelbel's Canon. It's a beautiful piece of music but I've heard it at literally every single wedding I've attended in the last ten years. I'm at the point where I become physically ill when I hear it.
One piece that I plan on using if I ever get married is "Sheep May Safely Graze," a lovely Bach cantata.
