Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" is one of my all-time favorites, but Jack Black's version is amazing as well. I'd seen/heard it at the end of "High Fidelity," but for some reason it didn't resonate with me until one night when a local DJ played it as I was driving home from work late, and I was so taken by it that I almost drove off the road.

Speaking of Ben Folds - his version of Dr. Dre's "B*tches Ain't Shit" is hilarious. It's all emotional and...well, listen and you'll see. I laugh every time. Muse's cover of Feeling Good is so cool, but I love most any version of that song. I just listened to that on Itunes and I must have that. I will have to put it on my "Don't Play Around the Kid" Playlist. I'm a big fan of Michael Buble's cover of Moondance. I think the song needed a little more swing in it. I saw Jimmy Buffet do "Magic Carpet Ride" live w/ the lead singer from Steppenwolf, and it was awesome.

I love Heather Nova's cover of 'Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing.' I love it when a person of the opposite gender brings a different feeling to an ambiguously gendered song. I also adore the Cowboy Junkies' version of 'The Way I Feel' for that reason.
I know this is about favourite cover songs, but brorkat's post reminded me that I hate, hate, hate, HATE 'Into the Mystic' and I hate Colin James even more for covering it. My boyfriend's company had him at their Christmas party, and he played that song, and I drank heavily. God I fucking hate 'Into the Mystic.'

Yeah I love that song. Then I heard Gavin Degraw cover it live and I fell in love with the song all over again. Here's the live version at the Avalon. He starts with part of "Sexual Healing" and then does "Let's Get It On." Even with all the screaming, he sounds great. Right click and save. Let's Get It On - Gavin DeGraw

Okay, since I've just gone on and on ad nauseum about Hall and Oates in the 80's Music thread, there's a cover song that, admittedly, I've never even heard, but given Daryl Hall's voice, I have been hunting for a recording of it since 1998.
Labor Day weekend 1998, I went back to Atlantic City to visit my family. Next day at breakfast, I was reading the Atlantic City Press, with a review of a Hall and Oates concert at one of the casinos. And it said that one of the highlights of the evening was Daryl Hall doing a cover of "Me & Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul. Now the original is awesome, and I have it on my iPod. But Daryl Hall covering it? What I'd give to hear that - I'd bet money that it was gorgeous!

I've been on a huge Nirvana binge these past few weeks and I have to show my love for Nirvana's cover of Where Did You Sleep Last Night. Actually, I love all of the cover songs that they did on Unplugged, but this is the one that may have finally kicked The Man Who Sold The World off of its top spot. Cobain's voice was just perfect for that type of song. Aw, what could have been.

Remarkable coincidence Auron, but I just put that CD in my car CD player yesterday afternoon after not having listened to it for a couple of years, and 'Where did you sleep last night' blew me away.
A cover band that rocks my socks is 'Me First and the Gimme Gimmes'; they do punk covers of songs from all genres. Their albums are divided along themes - eg one of their CD's is a cover of show tunes like 'Somewhere over the rainbow', 'Rainbow connection' and the theme from the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'.

I love cover songs!! Only if done properly though.
One of my favourites is a "Fields of Gold" cover by a band called Triniti. I also am quite fond of Vanessa Carlton's cover of "Where the Streets Have no Name". She plays the entire guitar opening on her piano and man, it blows my mind everytime I hear it.

Here are a few that tickle me:
Tori Amos's "I'm on Fire" Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal" Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night" (way, way, way superior to Celine Dion's, I might add) Eric Clapton/BB King's "Hold on, I'm Comin'" Jason Mraz's "The Rainbow Connection" Seven Nations "Under the Milky Way"
Oh, and anyone who isn't touched by Rebekah Del Rio's version of "Cryin'" has no soul.
