The Living End covers "Tainted Love"? Really? Iiiiiiiiiinteresting. I love those Aussies!
Pete Yorn does a nice blusey cover of The Smith's "Panic". I wouldn't say I like it *more* than the original, but I do like the diretion he took it in.
ETA: If anyone would like me to send them any songs I mention, PM and I'll be happy to do so. I love sharing music---especially cool covers.

I really like the Foo Fighters' version of Baker Street. Of course, they had a great original to work from courtesy of Gerry Rafferty.

Speaking of Ben Folds - his version of Dr. Dre's "B*tches Ain't Shit" is hilarious. It's all emotional and...well, listen and you'll see. I laugh every time. Muse's cover of Feeling Good is so cool, but I love most any version of that song.

Yes! It always gets stuck in my head also...not good when you accidentally sing it outloud...

Oh yes! The original is sort of plodding. This version (which is actually by Hole) just rocks. Yeah!
Yes. It's got a hard-rocking rockabilly sort of feel to it. It's awesome.
Isn't Soft Cell's version of "Tainted Love" a cover? I LOVE it too....I love it because it's slinky and mysterious. Yay. I hate Marilyn Manson's version.
Yes, Eva Cassidy's "Fields of Gold" is a beautiful cover of a banal-sounding Sting song.

Yes, Soft Cell's version of "Tainted Love" is a cover of the song, which was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964. I used to have a pretty hilarious bootleg of Guster covering "Like a Prayer". The bongo playing in it is insane! And they all sound like they're out of breath from glee. I know I've got the CD somewhere, I just haven't seen it in a long time. ETA: I just did a Wiki search on "Tainted Love" and it lists a bunch of recordings. One of these is a version done by Gloria Jones and Marc Bolan. Oh man, I'd LOVE to hear that! ( LINK)

I love k.d. lang's version of Neil Young's 'Helpless.' Neil has such a distinctive and sometimes distracting voice that it's hard to remember that he writes these beautiful poetic songs. And k.d. lang has a beautiful voice.
Also a fan of Don Henley's version of 'Everybody Knows' by Leonard Cohen. I like the original too, but I just find that there's too much going on in the background for me.
Also, I bought Jacksoul's covers album last week, and I'm quite taken with his version of 'Pieces of Me.'

The Old 97s do a cover of "El Paso" that's so fun and rollicking that I can't help but sing along. The original was pretty dull to me.
Actually, I almost always like the remake as much or better than the original, unless it was done by Britney Spears. The Tea Party's remake of "Painted Black" is awesome; Dar Williams and Ani DiFranco's version of "Comfortably Numb" is gorgeous; the Dishwalla remake of Depeche Mode's "Policy of Truth" is harder and more contemptuous; the Magnet/Gemma Hayes version of "Lay Lady Lay" is really sexy.
Sheryl Crow's version of "The First Cut is the Deepest" is an exception. Ugh.

I like Sheryl's version of "The First Cut..." I'm not big on Rod Stewart, though.
I like the cover versions of "Landslide." Smashing Pumpkins and Dixie Chicks. Both bring something different to the table.
I HATE HATE HATE Smashmouth's "I'm a Believer." Pointless and stupid. GRRR.
