The only one I can think of right now is Don McLean's "American Pie."

It was only recently that I recognized how truly sad Nil Lara's "Fighting for My Love" is. (It sounds happy on the surface, but the last refrains sound almost desperate.)
And, as much as I think he's a major-league douche, John Mayer's "Say" upsets me, every single time I hear it.

I'll probably get made fun of for this, but I LOVE, seriously Simple Plan's Untitled. VideoIn my defense, I hate all their other songs.

Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia" makes me cry every time I hear it.

"Cloudbusting" by Kate Bush gets me every time. It is sung from the point of view of Peter Reich to his father, Wilhelm. And, "Hurt" by Johnny Cash -- I am a puddle just listening to it. The video makes me weep.

Wildflower by skylark. It reminds me of my late mother.

The video makes me weep. My skin just went all goose pimples. Cloudbusting is so gorgeous. Sad and beautiful. I feel the same about Hurt. NIN's original, too. I love how the same words coming out of two different men, young and old, can have a different impacts.

Love, Me by Colin Ray. Kills me every time.
He Stopped Loving Her Today. Yeesh.
The Dance. I can't even stand to watch the video.
And finally, Wind Beneath My Wings. Nerdy I know, but it was sung at my dad's funeral, and I still tear up when I hear it.

Soul music is full of sad, saaaaaaad songs:
"Rainy Night in Georgia" by Brooke Benton.
"How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by Al Green.
"Use Ta Be My Girl" by the O'Jays. This song always chokes me up.

"Love Dog" by TV on the Radio is just gorgeous, and sad in a weird way. Please listen!
