Mine is Wasted Time by Me'shell Ndegeocello
I was going through a really bad break up then I heard this song, and I wondered how she had gotten into my house and written my life.
You rarely notice but I hang on your every word Everything you say You are much too busy to notice me You turn and walk away Into another's arms hopeless ashamed I wish I could hold you that way Brokenhearted I dream for you to notice me
Wasted time on loving you wasted time Wasted time on someone Who won't love you as much as I As much as I as much as I as much as I
In my fantasy you are asleep beside me I feel you breathe If only I could be there for you The one that you make love to
Wasted time on loving you wasted time Wasted time on someone Who won't love you as much as I As much as I as much as I as much as I
You rarely notice but I hang on your every word Everything you say You are much too busy to notice me You turn and walk away Into another's arms hopeless ashamed I wish I could hold you that way Brokenhearted I dream for you to notice me

It's gotta be "My Mother" from the Chipmunks movie (the 80s version, not that Jason Lee crap)

OMG GinFizz, that song used to SLAY me. My brothers loved watching that movie, but when that part came on I'd leave the room. Could never handle that song.

My favorite sad song is "Use Ta Be My Girl" by the O'Jays. It's got a happy, bouncy melody and sad, sad lyrics. That's what makes it such a great sad song.

I have heard it multiple times recently, as my sister gifted the movie to my daughter. It is surprisingly poignant.

One summer when I was kid I watched the Chipmunk Adventure every freaking day. I loved that movie.

The one I thought of was What Can You Lose? by Mandy Patinkin and Madonna, from Dick Tracy. (The least annoying video I could find was this Snow White and the Seven Dwarves one, but it does have the lyrics below it.) Unrequited Love is such a painful hurt, seemingly doomed no matter which way one turns. Edited to say: Found your My Mother song.

That My Mother song made me cry hard: “a friend and companion...” *bawls* Add that to the many sad Disney songs that have scarred me for life ( Baby Mine from Dumbo being the chief) and When Somebody Loved Me from Toy Story, and I am a mess. Here's one that’s more sad in the music than the lyrics to dry the tears up a bit but not completely ruin the miserable mood (heh, I wallow sometimes): The Moon by The Swell Season

In high school, we did the Rogers and Hammerstein musical Carousel. The song "You'll Never Walk Alone" always brings a painful tightness to my chest. VideoLyrics: When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of the storm Is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of the lark Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of the storm Is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of the lark Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on walk on with hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk You'll never walk You'll never walk alone.

They used that song in a Proctor & Gamble commercial for the Winter Olympics in 2010, they had moms singing it to their kids. It's making me all misty-eyed just thinking about it,
