I received a mix CD today with Joel Kroeker's Song for a Person on a Bridge today and it's totally bumming me out.
I may not be your Messiah And I may not be your God But if you can hear me now You've come this far And you're a superstar to me And I'm on my way I'm on my way So if you can hear me now Please wait
Wait for me songs in general are bumming me out right now.

Everybody's Changing by Keane. I never heard it until Lily Allen played it in concert, and I just downloaded it. It's so pretty, but it's making me so depressed. Agreed, on both the pretty and the sad. That album is full of pretty, sad songs though. We Might As Well Be Strangers and She Has No Time especially. She Has No Time made me cry the first time I heard it. It is gorgeous though.

This might be dorky, but "Abraham, Martin, and John" makes me incredibly sad everytime I hear it.

Aww, me too, Peggy Lane. Every time I hear that, I see old super-8 footage of King or Bobby Kennedy (not much of a JFK fan) in my head, and I just get teary.

While the music isn't all that depressing, the lyrics to Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing" still manage to pack a wallop: callahan, I love that song. Have you read Lester Bangs' essay on Astral Weeks? Ooh, thank you so much for the tip! It was a fascinating read.

My Buddy" by Chet Baker. Makes me think of my beloved doggy, who is in Heaven. I always used to say "hey, buddy," when I came home, so.... My dog died 2 weeks ago and "My Buddy" makes me think of her so much. The Mel Torme version is incredibly sad. And even more so when you think the song was written about the guys who didn't come back from World War One.

That video seriously made me cry. Hard. I'm still crying thinking about it. It IS pure evil. Poor doggy! At the end, when he takes the picture down of his owner I was crying so hard (actually I still am thinking about it). EVIL.

That video made me sob like a little girl. It also made me mad as hell at the guy for sending his dog off into space to die.

"Down From Dover" by Dolly Parton "Let The Sunshine In" from "Hair" (Go watch the movie...) "Columbus" by Mary Black "Goodbye Love" by Manhattan Transfer (I saw Cheryl Bentyne do this live with just piano, and it killed me)
