Bogey's leading lady. One of the most beautiful actresses of the 40's-50's. Now seems content to sit back on her Legend status and snark at this generation's actresses. (scroll down to 4th story)Hey, nothing wrong with that, we snark at them too. ;D! But I wonder if her constant slams on young actresses aren't starting to get a little too sour grapes. Any thoughts? ETA: Oh, and in the tradition of that other site, I guess I should add, "Nope, not dead!"

From the linked article:
Oh yeah, Tara Reid (movies) is an acting genius compared to that famewhore Glenn Close (recent addition to The Shield).
Lauren is losing it. Shut it - you aren't being witty or curmundgeonly, just bitter and stupid.

Back in "her day", TV consisted of the weekly Milton Berle show. The Boob Tube has much more influence than it once did, even from say 10 years ago. "Movie stars" lining up to guest-star on "Friends" and everybody and their mother dying to get on "Desperate Housewives" - you wouldn't have seen that 10 years ago.
Besides which, many of the made-for-cable movies are every bit as good as anything released in a theater - my favorite being "And The Band Played On", which was an exceptional HBO production.

I think Ms. B is awesome!!! She's strong and opinionated which makes her WAY COOL!!!! Dumb ass actresses today can't hold a candle to her. And I tend to agree w her on TV/Movies. Movies are still considered the big prize in the ind. Most actors who make guest appearances on popular TV shows have already proven themselves in the movies and have the luxury of being able to show up for fun (or added exposure) on TV. And while there are plenty of movies that suck, there's more F-ing Lame-Ass TV shows by far. I don't think she's being bitter at all; she's just telling it like it is!!! Hell, she's a LEGEND who stood the test of time. Where will 90% of todays actresses be in 5 yrs?? Can anyone say INFOMERCIAL???

Bashing her over in the dumb quotes thread, but -- Angel, she's done lots of commercial voiceover work so I'm sure an infomercial isn't too far away for Lauren herself. 'Course, she was already fired from one ad. And she's the star of prestigous ads for Tuesday Morning. If you can name 5 movies offhand she was in back in her heyday (no Bogeys), I'll give you ten bucks. Err, not really, but...she sure isn't being so outspoken because she needs to be remembered as a huge star. No sir. Distinctive looks and voice, middling talent at best. So I guess ScarJo being compared to her was perfectly apt. I honestly think she wouldn't be a star if it weren't for film noir -- she is the epitome of the mysterious yet knowing dame.

Hunter, I was afraid someone was gonna bring up her commercials! Ouch! I still say she's great! Attitude and all. I think your $$$ will be safe, however. I agree Bogie boasted her career. But I still say she runs circles around today's current crop of (mostly) mindless flesh bunnies posing as true actresses.

Crap! No soup, (or imaginary ten bucks) for me! I wanted to accept huntergrayson's challange, without cheating by looking on imdb, but the only non-Bogey Bacall movies I can come up with are: How to Marry A MillionareThe Fan (creepy 80's flick) and Ready to Wear aka Pret-A-PorterI'm not sure those last two even count as in her "heyday" Millionare was hilarious, though. No so much for Bacall, but for a near-sighted Marilyn Monroe, too vain to wear her glasses, constantly tripping up and bumping into things. Clumsy Screen Goddess= Funny! ;D

I don't know if she really understands the problem with actresses today is due to a) too many tv stations with too much time to fill, and b) too many crap movies churned out just to make big bucks that first weekend. Neither medium requires "quality" acting, which is why it is so notable when you see it. A majority of young actresses are like hamsters running on wheely things - scrawny, brown haired, three-named interchangeable nobodys. Or scrawny, blond, three-named interchangeable nobodys. Here one month, the sensation of the year, gone the next, replaced by the next sensation, but recycled until they get too old and familiar to get any substantial parts. I say, good for Ms. Bacall, she's 80 and is entitled to say anything she pleases! She was unforgettable in her movies with Bogie. Can you picture Katie Holmes or Natalie Portman in 50 years with the same impact?

Yeah, it's wearing a bit thin. She was rude about Nicole Kidman on a film they worked on together (Birth?) and Nicole had to defend her. I thought it was just rude. Maybe this is Bacall's way of getting some press. If it were today, wouldn't you guys be questioning her marriage to Bogey, like everyone questions Catherine Zeta Jones? At least Catherine had done a lot of work before the marriage. Bacall was a young model, before the days of the supermodel. It was likely to be her one chance to do something for her career. I happen to agree with her about the endless parade of generic anorexic babes, but preaching about the marriage/career conundrum is a little over the top. And don't critisize Hugh, he can act circles around you Slim.

Maybe that's why she lost the supporting actress Oscar to Juliette Binoche that year - she's a big beeyotch, y'all.
