I don't care for watching sports (and American football and baseball seem particularly ... uninteresting, to be diplomatic), but I am quite happy that the Patriots lost!

I'm not a football fan - I'm mostly glad that football is over because that means my true love, baseball, can start - but the Eagles' win made a lot of my family and friends very happy, and I'm always glad to see Brady and Belichick sad. And I always love a good underdog story, so kudos to the Eagles. May the city of Philadelphia still be standing after the Super Bowl parade.

I'm with you guys. I haaate football, and particularly the NFL. But anything that can make my 13-year old nephew cry actual tears of joy is gonna make me pretty doggone happy by extension. It's nice to see people come together and be happy about something -- we all need it right now.

I was sure they were going to burn it down if the Eagles won. I'm working in center city now and I was hoping for an Eagles win because the parade is going to mean a work from home day, but I'm also happy they finally got a Super Bowl win. Even if it does contribute to the overall "living in the upside down" feeling I have all the time, because I truly never thought I'd see the day!

The only thing better than seeing the Patriots lose was seeing Brady's spectacular fumble set it in motion. Couldn't have happened to a nicer fella. Even though I'm a New Englander, it was hella funny to see the look of confusion on Brady's face as the ball landed in his arms and he dropped it. It was as if in all of Brady's many years of football training, no one had ever told him what to do with a ball coming TO him. I spent much time at the Super Bowl party I was at arguing with people about how smart the players are. I had made a comment about Gronk not being the sharpest crayon in the box and apparently I was wrong, they are all geniuses. Gronk is a very, very nice guy. He lives down the street from me in a regular person house. He gives out candy to trick or treaters on Halloween. Sometimes, he goes across the street to Dunkin Donuts and helps work the drive through for a while. But I've also seem him try to read out loud so please don't tell me he's smart.

My New England roots run deep, but when the grandparental generation landed here after the war, they embraced the Broncos. I just can't with Tom Brady. Lie. Lie. Lie. Cheat. Cheat. Cheat. Trump. Gronk sounds cool. I can accept individual Patriots, but collectively, no way! Just like the Yankees. Look at me, making friends everywhere I go.

I’m a Patriots fan, and I love Gronk, but the dude is thick as a brick. Pats fans who think he’s smart ought to watch the episode of Celebrity Family Feud he did with some of his brothers a while back. They are the dumbest and most entertaining bunch I’ve ever seen on that show.

I think that's why I like Gronk.... He reminds me of that guy in high school who was super athletic and at the very least not ugly, who wasn't ever mean. He didn't put down other kids... he would sit next to you in study hall and joke around with you and would say hi at the pizza joint after school or if he saw you at the mall would at least give you a head nod... He might have hung around the mean lunkheads but he never participated in the meanness but after he'd come over and be like " those guys were just being assholes" I also always appreciate the people who even in adulthood never lose that sense of its ok to be a goofy weirdo and I think he really embraces that which is nice to see in an era of cultivated personality. My son loves that show he's on ( Nickelodeon?) where its basically Americas Funniest Videos Sports edition, and he always seems like an affable guy.. like if he were my neighbor, he'd def be the best guy at the block party.
My son took the loss surprisingly well, and it was actually kind of a nice way to talk to him about the importance of winning, but also of losing gracefully ( my feed has been filled with lots of " Congrats to Philly, enjoy basking in the warm embrace of victory.. New England knows what its like to have a bunch of shitty teams that couldn't win a coin flip let alone a championship and how it feels to finally break that") but it was also a good way for me to talk to him about how sometimes its about showing up ( I actually showed him the Eric the Eel video and explained that this guy has never been in a pool before, he's not a great swimmer, and how every body was kind of teasing him but then that last quarter of the race everyone is on their feet for the guy to beat his countries record and he kind of becomes a hero) which are all important lessons for a first grader to learn

My brother is also taking it well. He says it's because he doesn't want to be like the obnoxious Yankees fans he went to college with and think his team has to win all the time. A lot of New Yorkers went to Boston University in the late 90s, and apparently they were not gracious winners. Getting back to Gronk: his house was robbed while he was away in Minneapolis. Dude is not having a good year so far.
