NASCAR features prominently in 2 fiction books by Sharyn McCrumb:
Once Around the Track --- about a new NASCAR team and their mystic driver
St. Dale --- about a group of people who honour Dale Earnhardt Sr. with a bus tour to the big track
I read one of these just before attending the big V8 race here in Australia (our equivalent of NASCAR) at Bathurst, New South Wales. Lucky enough to get a pit pass and watch one of the teams in action---it was thrilling! I agree with anyone who prefers V8 racing to Indy.

Here's a video of a Renault Formula 1 engine in full song... literally. Formula 1 racing engines rev up to 20,000 rpm and are operated by fly-by-wire electronic throttles, so the rpm can be very precisely controlled. In this video the Renault F1 team demonstrates how precisely their engine can be controlled. Be patient, it takes about 45 seconds till the video gets to the good part. The thing that sounds like a dog barking is the engine revving in the 10,000 to 20,000 rpm range. Then the fun begins. It's definitely worth waiting for. Enjoy.

Those engines always amaze me. I can't wait until next year.

I'll still watch the rest of the cup races but I'm pretty sick of the Jeff and Jimmie show. Tony is pretty unlucky. Haha, the Jeff and Jimmie show! That is funny because it is so true this year. I still like watching though, because even though there are consistent performers there are still some surprises every week...like Kurt Busch's finish last week. Hehe, you all know I am a fan

My mom's already steamed that Jeff lost the points lead yesterday, I hate to hear (She's a loud sports fan, unlike myself.) her reaction if Jimmie wins the championship.

Well honestly I'm okay with Jimmie winning this year, if it keeps Gordon from getting his, what is it, 5th championship. I just don't want every race to be won by Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson. If there is 43 drivers out there, it would be nice that one of the lesser known drivers got a win here and there. How about Johnny Sauter? Maybe a Reed Sorenson. Essentially it seems when they implemented the new car to make things more fair, it kinda did the opposite.
That being said, since I'm a Junior fan, I can't wait until next year.

I'll probably watch tomorrows race to see how Tony does but also to see how the two Canadian racers do. I believe they're both from my home province Quebec.

They might as well engrave Jimmie's name on the trophy already.

Is anyone still paying attention to the Chase? I a lot of people I know have said that it is boring because it is pretty apparent who is going to win. I guess that even though it isn't suspenseful it is still interesting to watch the other stuff going on in the race- like Jr. crashing out last weekend and the speculation that he did it on purpose. I think it's cool to see the other drivers who are still racing with a lot of heart- like Ryan Newman driving his Dodge to 5th place.
What are everyone's thoughts at this point in the season?
