Prescription drugs can be just as bad as street drugs when abused, and worst of all the addicts convince themselves that since it's prescription drugs that they "need," they're not addicted/harming themselves. So it's possible that Brittany never took street drugs... either way, she was definitely on something. I saw plenty of interviews where girlfriend was not all there.

I don't buy it. Rick James had cocaine in his system when he died - something that as a diabetic and someone recovering from a stroke (and other ailments) he had no business ingesting.

Brittany Murphy's mother claims toxic mold found in her daughter's Hollywood home is to blame for both Brittany and her son-in-law's Simon Monjack's deaths.

Brittany died of pneumonia in 2009 and just months later her husband suffered the same fate.

TMZ reports Brittany's mother Sharon Murphy claims the people who built the house are to blame for the mold that caused their illnesses. In a new lawsuit, Sharon alleges she was misled by her lawyers and tricked into giving up her rights to sue the builders for wrongful death.

If that house was filled with mold, it could have been the final factor on top of the pneumonia that did her daughter in... I'll feel really bad if it's true, because I was sure it was drugs.

I still think it was drugs. And it sounds like Sharon's (old) lawyers didn't buy mold playing a role in Brittany's death or they wouldn't have shot down their client's chance to file a wrongful death lawsuit. But there's always some ambulance chaser who is willing to pursue any misguided legal action as long as they are getting paid, hence the new lawyers.

I think Sharon is going to spend the rest of her life this way - Brittany was her whole world, and she's never going to be able to move on.

Wasn't the mother tricked out of Britney's assets by the husband and his mother? I wonder if Britney's mother sees this as a last ditch effort for some financial security.

Still, the mold thing doesn't sound entirely implausible on it's face. The two of them dying within such a short span of time was just too kooky.

Black mold is a silent killer. I wouldn't doubt this was the underlining cause of both her and Monjack's deaths. It's just all too weird that they would die closely together and neither of them had serious drugs in their system that could be linked to death.

So tragically sad, because it really should have been found and could have been prevented.

It is plausible, but Sharon was living in the house with them. Wouldn't she have some health problems as a result of the mold too?

Yep. I'm guessing mom was the only one not also on opiates. Brittany and Simon had pneumonia, but the Oxy they were doing further compromised their respiratory systems. Didn't Jeff Conaway just die of pretty much the same thing?

I feel bad for mom, but she is going to have to move on.

Breaking News in the cause of death: May have been due to Rat Poison

After years of fighting in courts, Bertolotti was able to secure samples of her hair, blood, and tissue to submit for independent testing. The results were surprising—there were ten heavy metals found in Murphy's samples that were multiple times higher than the World Health Organization's high levels, according to Daily Mail. They reported:

"If we were to eliminate the possibility of a simultaneous accidental heavy metals exposure to the sample donor then the only logical explanation would be an exposure to these metals (toxins) administered by a third party perpetrator with likely criminal intent," the report says.

These heavy metals can be found in rat poison and insecticides. Murphy and her husband both experienced symptoms of poisoning—including headaches, coughing, wheezing, dizziness, and gastrointestinal problems, reported Examiner.

Two years after Murphy's death, Bertolotti and Murphy's mother, Sharon Murphy, both claimed that toxic mold from their daughter and Monjack's home were the cause of their deaths, and had settled with the home builders.

Really?! Unbelievable.
