I think that it seems to be more a custom of the older Royals, but William and Harry prefer trousers to kilts for events and in their daily life.

I wonder will William wear more kilts when he becomes becomes the Prince of Wales? I thought Charles wore them mostly at engagements. I had no idea there were for casual/daily wear.

I always assumed the kilts were a nod to Prince Philip's being the Duke of Edinburgh, so Charles, Andrew, and Edward wore them whilst in Scotland. The Wales boys have some photos in kilts as younger men, but I don't see them as having the same connection, if that makes sense.

Princess Anne is set to become the first ever female Captain General of the Royal Marines this spring! Wow what an honor for her, and she’s the perfect royal to take over this role.
I know it’s mainly ceremonial but I hope these marines are a little scared of her, LOL.
