I've not read Ortberg's books, but I'm having an odd mental reaction of immediate, very low interest in reading the advice column from a man. I know Ortberg has written a lot about feminism and gender, and I suspect will have to address it more now even in the column. I think the past column has generally been okay, and it's interesting how my brain immediately didn't value it much anymore if it's written by a guy. But I hope Daniel is more content, and Daniel is a WAY better name than Mallory.

Well, good for him. I loved Mallory's snarky send-ups of Classic Art in The Toast.

Since NewPru, some of the advice has been weirdly off, but more from what seems like less life experience with tedious things like office dynamics, or other people's family dynamics, but it usually worked itself out in the comments section. I also confess to being less interested in the voice of male advice...

I’m just not interested in another male voice so I’m probably not going to read it as much.

I'm curious to see if the advice changes as his perspective changes.

Woah. Reading the asker's letter was like wading through toxic waste. Especially the baby-sitting part.

It's so bad there's not even anything to discuss. Just GET OUT OF THERE!

I don’t believe it at all. The whole letter (and the bullet list in particular) reads like a list of things designed to make the AAM comments section explode (depression, forced childcare, WOC exploiting a white man’s work). And really, if something seems too ridiculous to be true—it probably isn’t. I acknowledge it is embarrassing that I have read enough AAM comments to be able to say this, but I still think I’m right.

Well, the letter writer has checked into the comments thread and is working with Allison on her resume, so not completely bogus, at least.
