So, does this mean that Dr. Luke has all the talent? Because these singles from this album are just awful! I had Teenage Dream in the car's CD changer thingy for over a year without getting sick of it. And, while I didn't end up buying Prism, both Birthday and International Smile were splashy fun catchy singles. What the hell happened?[/quote Orlando Bloom?

So the new American Idol...??
What has happened to her? Why the extreme fall- like, I can't recall an as extreme fall from someone that just kinda crept up on me from out of nowhere...
Why has her career tanked this bad?

Her last album seems to have tanked, but isn't her American Idol paycheck supposed to be completely ridiculous, like $20-25 million? To the extent one busted album constitutes a fall, it's got a soft landing I wouldn't mind.

Why has her career tanked this bad? I feel like she's about at the same skill-level as Rihanna. They're both not particularly musically ambitious, and rely on good songwriters and hot collaborations. Rihanna is still getting the good material, but I think Katy isn't being offered the good songs first. She turnerd 30 and stopped being the sexy ingénue.

Plus Rihanna has a personality and far more jaw dropping red carpet moments than Katy Perry.
I think it's kind of amazing that Katy has been this famous for this long. I don't have anything against her but I can't think of a single thing she's done that really needed her to succeed, if that makes sense.

While Rihanna may have perfected the art of not giving a fuck while inwardly trying hard, Katy Perry just seems to Try. So. Hard. It's annoying. Her personality that she shows on social media is annoying. Her music is just there to me. I would want to hang out with Rihanna.

I don't see her turning 30 as being the end of her sexiness. I feel like at some point she decided that she wants to be more 'edgy' and 'woke' and toned down the sexiness in favor of a more cutting edge look that just doesn't work for her. I think much of her success can be attributed to her looks, and most of her fans really aren't looking for more mature messages coming from her. I think if she went back to being a pin up and sang better pop songs she'd be marginally more successful, but in the end her looks will start to fade and without the talent to fall back on or keep the younger pop stars at bay, she will drift away into oblivion.

Her image has been directed at younger girls, which worked while she was one, but now that she is 30ish it seems contrived and a little pathetic. Like the options are she's either inauthentic or Baby Jane-ing.

I didn't mean to imply that Katy's turning 30 meant that she was no longer sexy. I think mrspickles articulated my point in a much better way.

Unfortunately for us (fortunately for her) she won't drift away into oblivion. She can make a living as a celebrity in other venues (such as reality shows) for decades.
