I think he wishes the walls could talk, because [unlike Iris] they might talk rationally and interestingly to him. Yes, that's what I thought too. It took me awhile to get it because I thought he was thinking about the stories that the walls could tell if they could talk, but then it dawned on me that Iris and the other ladies are just ignoring Jim. ;D Oh, I just wish she would kill him off instead of these kind of strips that don't advance the strip, and make me even madder at Jim's family, except April, who won't even come visit him or take him out from the retirement home.

Ugh. Jim and Iris this week. Why does Iris have to look like such a lump? Jim looks old, but he still looks like a person. Lynn just can't (or won't) draw women aging well.
As for Liz and Blandthony's picnic at the park with Francie - what a bitch! She's moaning and whining about all she has to do and organize, and two weeks ago April gets hell for hanging with her friends instead of doing wedding work, even though she apparently already did more than her share. I still can't get over that April addressed all the invitations, much less is "in charge" of the flowers.
But now it's two weeks closer to the wedding and Liz can lollygag around the park for the day? I don't begrudge any frazzled bride-to-be for taking some time out, but Liz hasn't done anything and yet has moaned about all the work, while her sister and mother and sister-in-law and sister-in-law's mother (!) have done everything. Liz is competing with Mike for Most Selfish Patterson.

I don't know how Lynn could possibly think that seeing an old man who can't talk and is confined to a wheelchair being made the butt of jokes is amusing in any way.
Also, "his daughter is coming to visit soon"? Yes, she will be arriving on February 30th.

I read over at the FOOB LJ that even the Kool Aid Nation wants Lynn to kill off Jim since he's suffering. Mostly I just wanted to post though because it would have been nice to have seen all these happy interactions with Jim like him going to a movie or his family taking him out for drives since Lynn only has 30 seconds a day to show what's going instead of just trying to prove to the criticizers on Coffee Talk that Jim's family actually does fun things with him even though she never draws it, except for April visiting him. You should know you're only going to make us madder, LJ.

So was the whole "Jim has a stroke" story arc set up to force an early marriage between Liz and Anthony before the strip ended? Because she could have just had them get married without turning Jim into a near invalid.

So Elly is going to stay with her father for a few days? It's pretty obvious that Lynn or her minions are reading forums like this because one by one, many of the criticisms are being addressed: Mike never spends time with his kids, Liz wearing her hair down, Anthony telling Liz why his marriage broke up (although that one backfired because "my wife had PPD so I ignored her" just made Anthony look worse), Elly doesn't visit Jim enough, etc.
The irritating part is that Elly is going to be painted as some sort of martyr for this.

Given Elly's history of feeding her father (fatty prime rib) he'll probably have another stroke before The Snooze Wedding of the Year, particularly since The Lump pretty much starves him. Oh, and Iris? GET YOUR HAIR OUT OF YOUR EYES! That absolutely drives me crazy.

Another "Jeez, Grandpa Jim is so unreasonable!" punchline. Yeah, I don't see any reason for him to be pissed that everyone around him treats him like he's five years old and talks about him while he's sitting right there. I find it hilarious that Elly has decided to stay with her father *now*, during the planning of the Wedding Of The Year. She had all the free time in the world to visit him and never did. I think she secretly hates Liz and is laughing at the idea of Liz having a nervous breakdown from stress. Oh well, who wouldn't?

Good hands, good heart.... Goodbye!
So maybe Iris is making a break for it and will just forget to come back from visiting her son - (who she is actually related to) - and it will be left up to Elly & Martyrs Inc. to take care of Jim from now on.
Probably won't happen, but 'twould be poetic justice.

Iris will drop dead while at her son's. Can't have her competing with the memory of Grandma Marian at the Wedding of the Century.
