Oh dear God. Watched Breaking Dawn 1 this weekend, and I think I managed about 30 seconds between cringes. Absolute tat. What really bothers me is the number of my friends who genuinely think this is a beautiful, well-crafted love story. I mean, I enjoy reading the odd trashy chick-lit novel, but I don't try and claim it's Shakespeare.
This is a classic example of a film series going MASSIVELY downhill after the first film, which was reasonably entertaining IMO. This? Made me feel embarrassed for everyone in it, and also glad that I hadn't paid to see it in a cinema.

It's only fair, since it's based on THE most craptastic book ever written. I still haven't seen this. I don't know who I can convince to watch this shitfest with me... Jack Daniels or Jose Cuervo? Make sure to bring Jim, too.

wow. this movie was worse than I thought.
Littlest and I redboxed it today with the sole purpose of ragging on it. Most of it was so bad that we didn't have the heart.

Okay, what is up with ads proclaiming a 'surprise twist ending' for BD2? Stuff actually happens? K. Stew discovers a second facial expression? Jacob is put in custody for being a pedowolf?

Despite the very high budgets for the final two installments ($110M & $130M, respectively), I can't get over how cheap and down market these movies look. The makeup, the contact lenses, the CGI, the art direction -- they all look like something you'd see on the Syfy Channel.

It cost $37 million and looks much more low budget than that. I think some of the budget increases for the later films went more towards paying the talent to stay on board than enhancing the special effects, but even still, $110 million for those horrible CGI werewolves? Maybe it will turn out that someone at Summit has a very fat bank account in the Cayman Islands.

I have to admit that I am really curious about the surprise ending. I know that they are supposed to do some sort of choreographed dance sequence to an Eurythmics song (really?) but I believe that the twist is different. My guess is that they have found a way to become human again. I hear you on the cheapness. Nikki Reed is gorgeous yet the blonde hair looks terrible in every movie. I would rather Rosalie be brunette than have ugly hair.

I read a spoiler online that claims that they actually show a big fight with the Volturi, unlike the non-fight in the book, and that Alice and Carlisle are both killed by the Volturi, but then at the end it turns out that it was all just a premonition by Alice showing the Volturi what would happen if they really did fight. Or something like that. So basically no one gets killed and everyone is happy. I read the books so long ago that I can't even remember what happened in the end, just that nothing happened.

Based on reading Cleolinda's recaps and others, I had figured they would change the ending so that *something happens* to make it cinematic but that sounds fifty shades of dumb.

Meh. Someone needs to take one for the team and go to the midnight screening.
