I'm really surprised that your boyfriend wants to see it, carrier76. It's not a story that appeals to your average guy IMO. I talked one well-meaning lady out of getting it for her 12-year-old grandson. Does your BF know anything about the series other than the fact that it has faux-vampires?

Looks like I am going to have to wait until next week to see the sparkle. My BFF woke up this morning, got on Fandango and every showing tonight was sold out! And this is not a tiny little town, we were going to see it in Murfreesboro, which holds the largest university in TN. Wednesday is the next day we are both free. She and I were both stunned- it is seriously selling out before showtimes? I think that this might be a bigger hit than I feared.

So I saw the movie earlier today. No, I didn't pay for it.
Ah...I will say, like the book, that it was quite dull in places. I checked the my cell phone clock about 20 times. Also like the books, Bella has the least charisma compared to every other character, which is partly due to how Bella is written in the books, and also because I think Kristen Stewart just isn't a good actor, despite the hype. Catherine Hardwicke also decided that she needed about 1500 closeup shots for the duration of the movie, so now I am so tired of Kristen's face as well. Also, the bluewash effect got irritating about halfway through the film. I get it, Forks is rainy and dull. Y so artsy, Catherine Hardwicke?
Rpattz. Oh dear Robert. There were times when I thought his acting was bad, at the beginning. His accent didn't slip...but it changed a few times during the movie. But I did like his scenes around the end of the movie and I thought he was excellent in the scene where he's leans over and Bella and smiles sadly and asks: "Isn't it enough to just live a long and happy life with me?" I swooned just a tiny little bit, and I don't even find Rob that attractive, except for certain angles, or when he's Cedric Diggory.
Lulz/WTF: (spoilers) The effects were so bad in this movie. The flying running scenes were so poorly done that I giggled. The sparkling scene : was a total letdown. He didn't really glimmer all that much, but whoever did the "twinkling" sound effects as Edward revealed his shirt should be congratulated. It was so hilarious! - James making a video for YouTube of him killing Bella. The dialogue was so bad and it wasn't even in the book. It took away and edge James might have had.
- AS IF YOU COULD OUTRUN ME! AS IF YOU COULD FIGHT ME OFF!
Things I did like: -The Cullens. Awkward dialogue plagued everyone, and they didn't get too much focus, but I liked Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, and Alice and Emmett were cast well, too. Jacksper would basically just wander into his scenes with a weird grimace, but it was funny as he's described as the one "who always looks like he's in pain." Nikki Reed as Rosalie could have used some more spark, though, and her dye job was terrible. - The "BadVamps", or rather mostly just Laurant, though I thought all 3 played off each other well during their first scene. I still can't forgive Victoria's "wicked curveball" line. Or James' "Tell him!" - Charlie. He was adorably awkward. And in the movie Bella shows some genuine remorse about hurting her father.
- Billy Black! I loved the actor, and though he doesn't have much to do, he was exactly how I pictured Billy. And he zoomed around in his wheelchair!
The opening week numbers should be good, but I can't imagine casual moviegoers/ people seeing it out of curiosity will be moved to see it again. Besides the hype, there's not much to make the movie stand out. Even a couple hours after seeing the movie, I'm straining a little to remember specifics. The people in my theater were buzzing excitedly when the movie began, but it seemed as though their dazzle was chagrined after the credits popped up.
I half expected Stephenie Meyer to have a credit for her little cameo.

It's gonna make huge numbers: it made more the $7M in midnight showings alone and as of yesterday there were reports more than 2,000 showings for the weekend were already sold out.

I found a little more information: Source[/color] Stephenie Meyer's delusions of grandeur will reach new heights this year, I'm sure. I'm happy for the cast, though.

Can someone spoiler what the sparkling is about? It seems major. I may pick this book up when the frenzy has died down.
ETA: wrong thread? I confused myself. Thanks scarlet.

It's not spoilery (at least I don't think so):
In SM's world, vampires' skin sparkles in the sunlight.

So my stepmom and I went to see Quantum of Solace tonight. Hot damn, did we pick the wrong night to go to the movies.
Our local theater is a huge, two-story affair with around 15 screens, and SEVERAL screens were showing this movie. There was a line outside the theater that we had to fight our way through (I guess for a later screening) full of tweens and their moms--and the odd dad and brother. I saw a girl with "TEAM E" written on her face, and several t-shirts with the Cullen family crest or something; at least it was a crest with an open hand on it and "Cullen" printed at the bottom. One girl, who must have been about 12, was wearing a t-shirt that said, "forbidden fruit always tastes the best." i wanted to tap her on the shoulder and ask, "And how the hell would you know, you're 12!"
There was another line inside the theater that ran all the way up the stairs. There were tween girls running and shrieking "EDWAAAAAARD." Definitely saw some Twi-moms, too. One of the theater employees was trying to corral everyone to the appropriate screens, and asked me and my stepmom if we were there for Twilight. I mean, I know we look like a mother and daughter, and I could easily pass for high school age, but c'mon, really? HELLS NO, we were there for James Bond!
I wanted to get smashed and sneak into this, but I am definitely going to have to wait for the crowds to die down.

I went to see this last night with some friends. Had no idea it was a book series. I just saw the commercials and thought it looked cool. If I didn't know it was a book beforehand, boy did I know it once I got in the theater. It was FILLED with annoying teenagers who would call out character names once they were shown on screen. "It's Jacob!" Ugh.
The movie felt like episodic television, and the ending confirmed that feeling. The special effects were cheesy. And the guy playing Edward looked way too old to be a high schooler, especially next to Kristen Stewart. He looked to be in his late 20s, so I was shocked when I just wiki-ed him, and he is only 22.
Overall: it sucked. I can't imagine anyone who hasn't read the books enjoying this movie.
