Here's a review of a review at RottenTomatoes, in which the reviewer says Twilight is like True Blood crossed with Saved by the Bell:
Which is probably, right there, the reason why I'll probably only ever watch this movie on a flight, where I either can't walk out or need something to help me fall asleep over the ocean.

I went to see this last night with some friends. Had no idea it was a book series. I just saw the commercials and thought it looked cool. If I didn't know it was a book beforehand, boy did I know it once I got in the theater. It was FILLED with annoying teenagers who would call out character names once they were shown on screen. "It's Jacob!" Ugh. The movie felt like episodic television, and the ending confirmed that feeling. The special effects were cheesy. And the guy playing Edward looked way too old to be a high schooler, especially next to Kristen Stewart. He looked to be in his late 20s, so I was shocked when I just wiki-ed him, and he is only 22. Overall: it sucked. I can't imagine anyone who hasn't read the books enjoying this movie. My daughter is off visiting her grandparents until Sunday night, when we "get" to go see it. Okay, I'll be honest. I think it sounds like a fun disaster. I'm hoping we get girls who swoon everytime Edward shows up on screen. By the way, when I bought our tickets for Sunday afternoon? Many shows on Sunday were already sold out. We're going to a later show than I had wanted.

I liked it. Nay, loved it. There. I said it. I'll probably go again too.
The audience was filled with teens, but you could have heard a pin drop. I took 2 of my sons (one had read the book and one hadn't) and they both liked it a lot . Better yet, the one who hasn't read the book is now sitting downstairs doing so. ANYTHING that can get my teenaged boys to READ...damn, I'm there.
Ya, it was cheesey, but so was the book and I expected it. I thought the 2 leads delivered. My only nitpik was Rosalie being miscasted and the author popping up in the diner. What a show of vanity that was.

I'm glad you guys liked it. I plan on going to a Monday matinee (I just cannot deal with this weekend's crowds).
In other news, early reports are that it made close to $36M yesterday.

If GM really wants to avoid bankruptcy they should remake Bella's truck and offer paint packages that depict the purchaser's favorite scenes.
They would make a fortune!
