I just can't get into the phenomenon of the series. I have zero interest in reading them, nor the film.
I don't need a book to tell me how rainy and boring Forks, Washington is. I've been there, camped there and lived the Washington experience for 13 years. Yes, it sucks and a lot of the people are boring, especially in High School.
Pass.

Stephenie Meyer contacted me a long time ago (had something to do with a project I worked on) and sounded nothing more than a fan girl who was 'respected' in various fan fiction circles. When I researched who she was back then (I think it was like 4 years ago? Maybe more.), she just seemed really pathetic. She used to have a list of people that she wanted to play Cullen as a dream guy list and had it on every end of the spectrum. I think it was something like Brad Pitt (HA!) to Joshua Jackson. Ahhhh! Do you have any more details than that? C'mon, spill.

Ahhhh! Do you have any more details than that? C'mon, spill. Sorry, I posted the wrong posts in the Twilight Thread and the Stephanie Myers one. Oops! But to answer your question, I don't have a lot to say. She was contacting me on a way to reach various actors that she wanted to play Cullen. It was really weird. She hadn't sold the rights yet to her film, but she was in talks to have the story become a motion picture. Scarlet might remember this because back then I remember telling her and some other online friends about the email and they all told me to run, not walk away from her email. Mostly because it just looked like a really, really bad thing to be involved with because she was that fan girly.

She wanted Brad Pitt to play the central character? Didn't this book come out only a few years ago? And isn't it set in high school? I know he looks young but.....
Maybe I misinterpreted the weight of the story for these actors who chose to sign on. I assumed these movies would be like the Harry Potter franchise, in that they're geared towards teens and even children, but have a certain depth about them (well, I think Rowling does have underlying depth to her novels; whether the movies executed that well probably differs from person to person in their opinions) that puts them above the High School musical category. I know the Twilight books are not on the level of the Harry Potter ones because of the disdain so many seem to have for them but I thought maybe the movies would be executed in kind with the Potter series. Because I saw these movies as being similar to the Harry Potter kind (though with somewhat older actors) rather than the High School Musical type I thought perhaps that's why it looked like a good idea for the actors to sign on to.
Knowing that the author wanted Brad Pitt to play the lead makes me scratch my head and I suppose there really was no real vision for this story.

See, that's how I felt about it. Personally, I think it was just this random and wide ranged idea of who she'd love playing the role as some sort of fantasy wish.
It all seemed a little kooky to me.

Seeing as she had a 3-picture movie deal for this a mere few years ago I'm going to go out on a limb and say, in her head, she was picturing a Brad Pitt *type* for the role (although I never remember reading or hearing about her even musing about him), not literally Brad Pitt, as Edward is an 107-year-old vampire in a 17-year-old's body.

Wow, she had the 3 picture deal back then? I thought it was more recent. Color me surprised. I still think they're going to have to combine New Moon and Eclipse because I can't see poor Robert Pattinston signing up for Breaking Dawn. How that book will even make the translation onto the big screen I have no idea. I feel really horrible for Rpatzz. How could he have had any idea when he signed up for this movie? The crowd at San Fransisco was ridiculous, but this just makes me feel sad: Poor guy. Source

My bad: she had a 3 book deal when she sold "Twilight," but she sold the movie rights in 2004.
I cannot even imagine it.

Agreed. As I posted before, I think it's just so empty. There isn't much there at all.
As for her writing, well, it reads like a Harlequin romance written by an 8th grader who is obsessed with vampires.

My bad: she had a 3 book deal when she sold "Twilight," but she sold the movie rights in 2004. That sounds right to me. I believe that a Brad Pitt "type" would be more accurate. Now mind you this was at least four years ago, so my mind is a little cloudy on all the details. Maybe she was hung up on him from "Interview with a Vampire"? I still weep for the youth of America these days and the crap they go to pay and see. This film will be no exception.
