I don't think she was ragging on the Disney kids, she was ragging on Disney. In all honesty, most of the Disney generated stars do exactly what she said. Hannah Montana? The Jonas Brothers? Yeah, not real acting giants and their images are all manufactured by Disney. I'm glad they thought about the characters and did what they felt as opposed to just smiling on their marks. That's what actors do. I'll reserve judgment on her (and Robert's) performance after I see the movie and not what's just in the trailers.
And I really don't believe that they got these covers because fans wrote them angry emails about the last one. I thought I remembered reading that the Twilight issue was one of their biggest sellers (even with the backlash of the cover) and because of that and all the hoopla about the movie, that's why they picked it for the Holiday Movie Issue.

I didn't mean to imply that they got those cover because of fan outcry, I was just mentioning how funny it was that fans wrote to EW asking for a reshoot. And it seems like MTV before them, EW is fast becoming Twilight central.
I till think Kristen's comments were tacky. True or not, it's still catty to make such remark about her peers. And while he may fancy herself a better actor, it's Twilight...there's no more depth to this franchise than there is to High School Musical. If she didn't bother to read to book beforehand I don't know why she's getting pissy about the horrible dialogue.
I'm somewhat chagrined that it seems more and more likely that this movie will be a hit. Like Stephenie Meyer needs more of an excuse to act so smug.

It's not Oscar material by any stretch of the imagination nor is it going to be the best movie ever, but there's definitely some depth to it. I hope it is. For the cast. I like them all and I hope it does well for their sakes. SMeyer, though, she can go suck the big one.

Vanity Fair Twilight feature - interviews with all the cast members + cute group picture. I only started reading Twilight the other day but I have to say that so far, it's pretty badly written. I don't get all the fuss. But I will still pretend I'm a 14-year-old girl and go watch the movie. The cast are being heavily overexposed at the moment so I hope the movie at least lives up to some of the hype it's garnered.

I didn't think she was saying that the Disney kids were untalented. I got the impression that she was saying that actors not under the grip of the Disney corporation don't have any obligation to do exactly as told. I think Disney specifically hires kids willing to sign contracts that hand over complete creative control to the corporation. Any desire for independent thought is usually smothered (or that's my guess judging by what other actors have had to say once they leave. Even actors who have worked in the past with the corporation usually wind up saying some critical things once they're out from under its wing).
That was my sense of what she was saying.
I think any actor not signed with the Disney corporation is probably more likely to seek out greater influence in the direction of the script to some extent which is specifically why they don't sign with Disney in the first place.
Although the books might be bad I suppose I can see why the actors chose to sign up for it. The author's writing might not be good but perhaps the actual base for a good story might have been there and perhaps the actors in combination with the director felt there was a possibility of playing some kind of new subtext or a new frame for the story which might not have been apparent in the original novel. A lot of bad books get turned into good movies (though judging from the trailer for this one maybe that might not be the case) and a lot of good books get turned into bad movies. It's hard to usually judge the original source material to see how the movie will turn out.

Or maybe because they needed money and this one is likely to turn into a franchise?
I don't know, I guess it's nice that Kristen Stewart takes her job seriously, even when she's involved in a project as silly as this one. I guess we'll have to wait to see the movie to see if anyone escapes with their dignity intact. But if she still felt that the "you skin is pale white and ice cold...VAMPIRE!" line was good enough to deliver, I wonder what she made them change!?

That's true too. I don't doubt that they chose this for monetary reasons as well.
However, when I read about the idea for this movie in Newseek I thought it sounded good. The premise sounded interesting to me so I don't think they were totally stupid in that regard for taking on the roles and being disappointed that it turned out not how they thought it would be.
It's only when I saw the trailer and heard the dialogue that I realized "Oh wow....they took an interesting concept and ruined it by.....talking."

Eh, I agree with augurey in thinking that Kristen was being tacky with her comments. Even if she wasn't targeting the other actors themselves, she is still being rather dismissive of their careers. And I'm saying this as someone who looooooves making fun of the Disney cartel. Zac Efron and his possessed dancing? Comedy gold! But I think there's a difference between our (i.e. the viewers) mocking Disney and a fellow actor doing the same thing. It reminds me of how Reese Witherspoon would get all high and mighty and look down upon nudity as a viable career choice. Just because it's not the thing you would do for yourself doesn't mean you get to have a stick up in your ass about it.
And maybe Twilight has a modicum of more depth than HSM. But at least HSM doesn't promote stalking and abusive behavior. I think that both series suck, but in different ways. There's no reason for Kristen to get up on her high horse about anything.

In other news, this Twilight craze has gone from amusing to alarming: San Fransisco Twilight signing Canceled:
