I was surprised the article didn't address that.
Although, Eleanore has brought a lot of light comedy to the show, which is what USA wants. It's possible she'll stick around. I was surprised at the lack of hostility over the firings from David Maples' end, so maybe he's being congenial so his wife can keep her job?

This is exactly what I'm thinking, and what someone over on one of the popular TV blogs mentioned. All things considered, both sides are being pretty civil. It could very well be because Maples' wife still has a job. Eleanor has been a great addition, and I agree that she's bringing the lighter tone that the network is apparently looking for.
I think that if she got fired too or if she quit in protest, that would have been reported by now. It's too gossipy and salacious for folks to ignore.

She's the only other female character that will call Mary on her bullshit and can dish it out as well. I am so not liking the hint of UST between Marshall and Mary, I hope that's one of the things they get rid of. At the beginning I loved that these two were clearly just friends. The 4400 is the only other show I can think of where the two leads never had any romantic inclinations towards each other. It was awesome.

Hinting at anything else seems really, really wrong.

I really don't mind it. The actors have chemistry and really, they've been hinting at this since the beginning of the series, so it seems like it is something that was planned all along.
I could live with it either way, as long as the show remembers that their partnership/relationship is the heart of the show. I hope they don't drop any of that for some procedural crap.

I feel like dropping the Mary/Marshall tension would be bizarre, since Marshall is head over heels in love/lust for her. That said, I don't want it to come true, just not handwaved away.

**Bump** for Poodle
I've been wanting to put this in my Netflix queue. Good too know that it's a good show for future reference.

It's been way too long since this was on the air. Can't wait for new episodes. And I'm now really, really impressed with USA's lineup. I hope TPTB are checking out their programming (prob not) and taking notes (prob stealing ideas outright).

Yeah, it's finally coming back on March 31st. It's a long hiatus and feels weird for a USA show - I know Royal Pains is on a similar hiatus (they aren't coming back until summer) but I don't miss that show at all.
It sounds like the new showrunner for IPS is making some good changes. Someone on Twitter saw an advance screener of the season premiere and said that it looks and feels like a movie.

Could that be because Royal Pains sucks?
Topic: I miss IPS as well. I totally need to see Mary and Marshall smack around some stupid witnesses again. And possibly hook up, mostly for the laugh value (I don't really "feel" them as a couple, but could tolerate it for the humor.)
