Absolutely. I think he's got more to do in the next episode, but I don't know when/if he'll get an episode that's basically all about him the way this one was about Stan.

Marshall was totally sidelined here, so I think he's due an episode.
Eleanor's totally grown on me. When she was bullying people for info all I could think was, She can hang with Mary. Now if Mary can hang with her...remains to be seen.

Yeah, I started out not liking Eleanor and her micro-managing ways, but she has really grown on me.
And I kinda like the grudging respect and she and Mary are developing for each other.

I'm about to rant.
What the hell happened to this show? I had my gripes. Brandy was annoying. Jinx was an adorable drunk. Raphael was sorta dimwitted, but pretty. Mary was tolerable. She was screwed up, but she wasn't horrible.
This half season has made me want to drop this show. The writing for Mary has been all over the place. She has been a shrew from hell. Only recently have I been able to tolerate her. Brandy and Jinx have been downgraded. Hell, one of the best eps was the one that concentrated on them and Laura Prepon. What happened with that storyline? Marshall has lost a lot of what made him charming. The whole ep with the ring gave me major creeps. I think I was supposed to find it endearing/humorous and I didn't. I actually thought Marshall needed to get a life. And the unrequited UST between her and Marshall is pathetic and uncomfortable. If the writers wanted to go that route, they should have let Raphael go off to the majors. Grr...
The one positive this season has been Eleanor and she's not on nearly enough.
Now, we have the finale and I just don't care one bit. That is the fault of the writers. They have made this show absolutely unbearable. They've wasted guest stars (Joshua Molina) and scuttled a pretty good cast. Grr...

Well, stay tuned. Apparently the network agrees with you, because they shit-canned the show's Creator/Executive Producers (both of them) and plan on bringing in someone else to clean things up a bit for next season. You may or may not like the fact that Jinx has been downgraded to a "recurring" character, so we won't see her as much next season. I agree that this show could be cleaned up a bit (though I still love it). I disagree about Marshall - I have found him even more charming this season. I absolutely adore him. Here is an article about the firings and such.

The network not only shitcanned David Maples, they're not even airing the original season finale. What we saw tonight was the first half of that, but they made it the season finale and are never airing the second part.
All the changes strike me as good ones. I will miss Dershowitz, but his character makes more sense as a recurring one.
Season finale was weird and choppy, I thought. The CIA element was dumb and ridiculous - this show is not Burn Notice and it shouldn't try. I think the witness shot Mary. And since we all know she's going to survive, it's not really a cliffhanger.

Thanks for the article, kostgard.
I rarely agree with a network interfering with a show, but in this case, I'm glad USA did. I won't be disappointed about the downgrades if the eps those character appear in are good. That's all I want. I want the mix we had last year with Mary/Marshall/the job with liberal sprinkling of the supporting characters.
The 2nd part of the finale must have been the last straw for the network. To not even show it? To write off the loss without trying to recoup the revenue? They really must have hated it.
Thank you, USA.
ETA: Binky, I think the CIA witness did it too. I actually thought Marshall was about to impress us with his deductive ability. But no.

The network called the second half "a sad postmortem" and they didn't want to end the season that way. Which, I can't really blame them. The first season ended that way (where it was basically a drama about how crappy Mary's family is and how her dad walked out on them). It's hardly going out with a bang (and from what I remember, last season's finale got the lowest ratings of the season. Not great for a finale, which usually gets a larger audience).
Originally, USA was going to air the second half as the third season opener. But it sounds from that article that they might scrap it all together - but it is hard to tell. That article wasn't especially well-written with "OMG! Two stars LEAVING the show!!" in one paragraph, and then "Oh, they'll still be around, just as recurring characters" two paragraphs later.
I'm sure it has less to do with they didn't like how it turned out and more to do with the fact that it was probably pretty dark and depressing, and since they are trying to move the show in a new direction, they probably don't want to open their new season with something dark and depressing, so yeah - rewrites, reshoots.
From the spoilers I read from the original season finale, it looked like Mary was going to break it off with Raph. Man, that is one thing that I hope they don't change. I've never bought into that relationship and I'm been impatiently waiting for it to end. Raph was always better/cuter with Brandi.

Well since David Maples is gone Eleanor will likely be gone too, seeing as his wife plays her. That's unfortunate.
It really has gone sharply downhill. Just when Jinx and Brandy are experiencing actual growth as people they get sidelined. They turn Mary into a shrieking harpy, and now all the stupid CIA stuff. And they completely dropped the Mary's dad storyline. It's like they stopped caring. Hopefully it gets better next year.
