I don't know if this will sound weird, but there's something I find soothing about the audio of TOS. The bridge whistle noises, the sickbay machine noises. Even though TOS wasn't really a "formative" Trek series for me (I got into TNG and Voyager first) there's something strongly nostalgic about it. For all that TOS had no budget, they did a really good job of creating a consistent mood and feel. "Balance of Terror" is still an incredible episode. You aren't the only one, since YouTube is full of hours-long "ambience" videos of Star Trek audio. They got TNG too if you prefer Star Trek sounds from the 80s/early 90s.

In the 80's in Los Angeles, TOS reruns were on every day from 5-6 PM, then again I think from 9-10 PM? I watched them a lot, and even when I was at other people's houses they were often on in the background so I totally get this. TNG started my freshman year in college and I was THERE for it. Watched it every week in the dorm lounge.

I find the background roar of the engines on all the series really soothing (even DS9 had it though they're not a ship). I tend to watch in bed late at night, so those ambient noises in the dark give a nice cocooned feeling. (Actually, I also find the background noises in ALIEN really soothing too and usually fall asleep while watching.) So, I'm watching TOS on my own as part of my binge but my husband wanted to start ENT and, omg, Captain Archer is the absolute worst, narcissistic, privileged man baby of all time. He yells at everyone, just wants to watch water polo (really?), and the only way to cooperate with him is to kiss his ass.

I will say that it's been a while since a tv show has actually surprised me but the last episode of Strange New Worlds did. I never expected what happened to happen. I love this show so much. Anson Mount is the best captain.

I caught up with Enterprise last year, and gradually got used to its weirdness. But the series finale is absolute garbage and I hate it.

The finale is awful, but I do like Enterprise a lot more now after watching Discovery and Picard. Strange New Worlds has been good so far (I think I'm three episodes in) and also The Orville is kind of great? Not really Trek, more like a love letter parody.

I like Jessie a lot, but I gotta work up to her most recent sexuality in Trek video - it’s five hours long! She is an extremely thorough Trek nerd (so if you like Trek, she’s probably got a video for you).
