I only watched about three episodes of Enterprise before checking out, but I believe she had both jobs, Duke. Like Spock, who was both XO and Science Officer. Vulcans are good at multitasking.
I'll never forget that someone on the old Hissyfit boards referred to T'Pol as "T'Tits."

N'Pol was another funny nickname for her.

I am really beginning to realize how helpful the "beard/no beard" rule is for TNG. I was flipping through the channels last night and caught that episode where Data finds his brother (Lore, right?) who, of course, is evil. They couldn't put him in an evil goatee since they were going to pull the ol' switch-a-roo later, so they gave him an evil facial tic. Anyhoo, I remembered liking the episode when it first came out (when I was like, 12) but watching last night I kept thinking, "Damn this is cheesy. Why is everyone acting like this is a high school play? What the...oh, there's Riker. No beard. That explains it."
But man, the writing really was bad those first couple seasons. Didn't really notice that when I was a kid. And watching this episode I was surprised that Wesley was already on the bridge in his little rainbow shirt. For some reason I thought that crap happened later in the show's run. And of course, Wes was the only one who knew that Lore-as-Data wasn't really Data and no one believed him because he was a kid. Man, no wonder so many people hated that kid.

It wasn't just the writing that was bad. The acting was deplorable. Every time Patrick Stewart said 'the boy' when referring to Wesly, I cringed and thought he must be thinking now I have to refer to Wesly as 'the boy'. Looking back on the entire run, I think the only episodes that stood out were the borg episodes. But even that got hopelessly contrived and convoluted as they continued to try and get life out of it.

The beard/no beard rule even works for later on. Insurrection is IMO the worst of the TNG movies and guess what? No beard for Riker in that one!

Maybe Frakes is secretly sending us a messages with the beard/lack thereof. Just trying to spare us. I remember rewatching the pilot some years ago and wooo boy... that was bad. Also, Troi's outfits in the beginning as well as her hair was laughable. Not that he outfits were always that great later on, but in the beginning she looked ridiculous. That short skirt/uniform with the boots? Ugh. And the hair updo she had that was a gigantic beehive/tower of Angkor Wat? Puke!

Oh, man, Troi's little go-go dancer outfit she in the pilot. That was truly awful, especially combined with the giant tower/bun on her head. Then they just replaced it with the awful body suit. Experience the terror: Season One TroiThen just a slightly different body suit. Then that stupid dress.I was so glad when they finally gave her a real "medical officer blue" uniform.

I was a huge TNG fangirl back in the day. Had a ginormous crush on Patrick Stewart of course and finally confessed to my closest friend at the time (we were about 15/16) and was met with incredulity. "What? The BALD guy?!?" and laughter. Oh so much laughter.
Kept it bottled up until university where I finally met another TNG fangirl who shared my appreciation of the fineness of the Picard AND she thought Data was hot too. We went to see First Contact together and yelled, "Take it off!" at the screen in regards to Picard in his vest. Good times.
Haaaated Wesley {shudder}.

Really? Even during the teen years when it wasn't cool to find an older guy hot, everyone I knew at least thought that Patrick Stewart had a voice like butter. But maybe I was hanging out with a bunch of Trekkers/nerds.
I do remember going to see First Contact (or maybe Generations) with my friend on opening night and we were the only girls in the theater. No joke.

Aargh, I totally forgot about "the boy." That was patronizing and awful (although I did like the series overall).
