NASA is having a public vote for the wakeup songs to be played during STS-133, the space shuttle Discovery's final mission. One of these songs is the Star Trek theme song. If you're interested, bored, or just really hate Big Head Todd & The Monsters (who are also in the running and whose fans are making a concerted effort to win the #1 spot), please vote here

All five Star Trek series are now streaming on Netflix. Deep Space Nine finally got added this month, and I've really been enjoying rewatching the series. I know the big Star Trek argument is supposed to be Kirk or Picard, but I really think Sisko might be my favorite Trek captain. They managed to make him believably well-rounded, both a badass and a family man, and Avery Brooks' voice is as magnificent as ever. Also, while I always liked Kira, I appreciate her a lot more this go-around.
I could still live without all the Ferengi not named Quark though.

Just saw this on Slate. Watch how ridiculous the actors look when shooting a ship shaking scene

It's coming back!Enterprise went off the air in 2005, so it'll be 12 years by the time the new Star Trek series airs. I'm cautiously excited. It'll be a streaming series on CBS' platform. There are way too many of these services, and I fear they'll cannibalize each other.

I AM SO EXCITED!! (See icon) I'll definitely be watching. There a lot of things I like about the new movies, and I hope they are able to focus on those things.

Sorry to double post, but exciting news: Bryan Fuller announced as showrunner of new Star Trek TV series!!!Even the grizzled nuTrek haters at Reddit seem happy about this. This is great news. Fuller got his start on DS9 and Voyager and wrote some great episodes for both series (he wrote the Voyager episode that made me like Neelix, which is quite a feat). Here's hoping he can cast some of his frequent flier actors too, like Raul Esparza.

Get Mads Mikkelsent to play a villain! He'd look good as a Romulan!

Star Trek: Discovery was last night. I saw the first two episodes and I LOVED it. Sonequa was fantastic and I really enjoyed the relationship that she had with both the Captain, Michelle Yeoh (badass) and Sarek, James Frain. Really looking forward to the next episode. So much so that I'm getting my netflix back just so I can watch it.

I was hoping to love it from the start but couldn't get past Sonequa's incredibly wooden acting. If we're supposed to rally around her character, she needs to do a better job of making her more believable. Loved the Captain and Sarek (and even the science officer), but not yet sold on Number One.
