Roman Polanski

I recently saw a casting announcement for Roman Polanski's new film, "The Ghost", and I remembered my disgust for him.

I lose respect for Hollywood folks who praise this man, work with him and remain friends with him.

Perhaps I will be able to watch his films after he has been prosecuted for drugging and raping a thirteen-year old girl. I doubt that will ever happen, though.

No it probably won't happen, largely because the victim of the crime has repeatedly requested that the issue be dropped. What he did was disgusting but he seems to have made amends with the victim. Considering how much time has passed, I think it is just wishful thinking to believe that he will ever be legally punished for what he did.

I could be wrong, but the reason he wont be prosecuted has nothing to do with the feelings of his victim. It is because he accepted a plea of a lesser count (statuatory rape or something like it) in order to avoid facing the original charges from drugging and then raping a child in pretty much every cavity. He fled the country before sentencing, which is why he has yet to do any jail time. And I think her "forgiveness" of him has had less to do with him making amends, and more to do with how she has to deal with it everytime he wants the amnesty for his crime so that he can go back to the US.

What he did was disgusting and he deserves every bit of jailtime he was getting as far as I'm concerned. I'm not exactly going to cry because he can't attend the oscars. Simple solution to that: serve your well deserved time and then you're a free man and can attend all the awards shows you want to.

I am such a hypocrite when it comes to him. I think what he did was awful and disgusting and the fact he's escaped punishment is ridiculous. But The Pianist is one of my favorite movies, and he absolutely deserved the Oscar for directing it.

I highly suggest watching the recent documentary before drawing conclusions, and checking out the massive fallout from the documentary. This is a complicated matter. And I share my disgust for what Polanski did (I do separate the man from his crime in this circumstance) with the mother of his victim, who seemed to have the same sick stage mother disease as Lynne Spears and Dina Lohan.

I remember when he won his Oscar, there were several people giving him a standing ovation and several others sitting down refusing to even applaud. To the people who were sitting, I will like them forever and forever. Does anyone remember who some of them were?

I don't remember seeing anyone famous not standing. I clearly remember Harrison Ford, Calista Flockhart and Scorsese standing up and applauding.

Now, some persons remained seated with Elia Kazan received his honorary Oscar.

Are you thinking of Polanski's win or of Elia Kazan's honorary Oscar? I remember this for Kazan, and the sitters that I remember were Spielberg, Ed Harris and Amy Madigan, and Nick Nolte. For Polanski's win I just remember everyone being shocked and Harrison Ford having to cover for the absentee winner.
