I was watching the Today show on 9/11. Matt was talking when the first tower came down. He lost it, and choked up, and kind of raised his voice.

They very quickly cut to Katie, and she just starts talking in a normal voice about the tower falling. I understand she was professional, but to this day, I like Matt Lauer a whole lot more than her.

Of course, I could be remembering it totally wrong. Then I have no real reason to dislike her.

Except that she has no soul.

I've never seen the appeal to her and when I see her on the 60 minutes show, she just seems way out of place.

I like Matt Lauer loads better too. Of course, those photos of him with no shirt on that were posted this summer didn't hurt that cause either. I'd bet my next check he has better pecs credentials than Katie.

No, but CBS says they're patient (from NYPost):

November 19, 2006 -- Katie Couric doesn't need to sweat her recent poor ratings - judgment day isn't for another year.

At least that's what her boss is saying.

Days after ratings showed the "CBS Evening News" had - for the first time in the two months Couric has headlined the show - slipped below year-earlier ratings, Sean McManus sent out a "no panic" message.

"People who want to judge this as a success or failure after eight or nine weeks, I think are missing the big picture," McManus, president of CBS News & Sports, told The Post.

"Our commitment to Katie is long-term. I have said this from Day 1: I am much more concerned about the ratings in November of 2007, 2008, 2009 than I am in 2006," he said.

She'll be out by this time next year. She just doesn't have want it takes to anchor the Nightly News or contribute to 60 Minutes.

...oh, and I forgot to mention the COMPLETELY inapproprate rolling around on the beds of young, beautiful, male Olympic athletes while visiting the Olympic Village and commenting on how comfy they (the beds) were.

I thought I was the only person who was annoyed by this. At the winter Olympics, I remember she put cologne on a male athlete and then practically licked his neck. It was so inappropriate.

I like her. I think she revolutionized morning news programs in that the female anchor's persona didn't have to be smooth and business-like, like her male counterpart (see Jane Pauley, Diane Sawyer), but could be fun, and perky and kind of girly. Which I know are qualities people hate about her, but I can't help but like her. I hope the 60 Minutes thing doesn't tank.

I think CBS must be just trying to get their money's worth out of her at this point.

However, if they really think sticking her in to fill EB's spot isn't going invite very unfavorable comparisons...they need to find a new crack dealer.

Because, the stuff they're currently smoking is seriously messing up the part of the brain that blocks you from making WTF? executive decisions.

She's never appealed to me even in the Today Show format which she was more suited for. Choosing her to anchor CBS News was such a mistake. I would never tune into Katie for breaking news. I prefer Brian Williams - or even Charles Gibson.
