CC and shows are often very different (I have crazy noise-sensitive neighbors so I watch a lot of stuff with it on). My favorite was The Simpsons in which Krusty's line "This is my low point - and I once made out with a blow-up doll" apparently had an earlier draft in which the captioning was taken from with the much funnier line "This is my low point - and I once made out with Brett Butler."
I'm not sure how sold I am on Ben McKenzie as a cop, though. I sometimes watch The OC on SoapNet and he still looks just so young and boyish. But good for him for not vanishing into headband-designing obscurity or bearding for Hayden Christensen.

I really like this show and I can't wait for the next episode. I keep reading that it will be moved when Jay Leno starts his show. I hope the network does not move it so much it ends up being canceled.
Anyway, The only thing I don't like about this show is Detective.Sammy Bryant and his annoying wife. The actor who plays him (Shawn Hatosy) reminds me of Rick Astley , "Never gonna give you up" starts playing in my head whenever I see him.

LOL Bellu. I just keep thinking of that episode of Six Feet Under where he snorted his friend's ashes.
I'm enjoying this show and I'm happy to have cute Ben back on my TV every week. Leno can suck it. I'm not going to watch his show no matter what time it comes on.

I watched the pilot episode and the second episode is on my DVR for this weekend.
I love Ben McK, so I will watch it just for him. Overall though I was a little disappointed in how predictable it seemed. I just finished all 5 seasons of "The Wire" so I guess I am unfairly holding a network show to the same standards as a cable show.

I like this show a lot so far (the exception being the clingy gf with the dog). I never watched The OC but I like what I've seen of Ben McKenzie so far. I can't wait for other details of that home invasion to creep out.
Also, can y'all confirm that was C. Thomas Howell at the retirement party? Does he have an illness like cancer, or is his character just worn out from drinking? I'm always tickled to see my childhood crushes pop back up in primetime.
Regina King rocks the house! When her voice cracked during the pilot (she was trying to calm down her mom and still unsettled from seeing a kidnapping gone wrong), I was already thinking "Emmy." She's come up so well since 227. She's a real asset to this ensemble.
ETA: Yup, imdb confirms Howell is Officer Billy Dewey on the show.

Everytime I see the beefy mentor cop dude, I think to myself, "that's Steve Sanders' college friend from 90210 who had the crush on Kelly!"

Atreides, he also took Brenda to the prom, if memory serves.
I keep thinking about the Prince of Tides every time the incident in Ben's past is brought up. I don't know if they're going to go there, but it does seem like there's more to the story.
C. Thomas Howell reminds me of Steve-O.

I'm not enjoying the 2 young detectives very much and really miss the cops (Ben McKenzie and the other guy) when they aren't on screen. Their stories seem the most interesting.
Regina King is phenomenal and I hope she gets some recognition for her role. She had just a bit part last night and says so much with such little dialogue.

The other guy is Michael Cudlitz and I agree with you that we should see more of those two and of Regina King.
