I don't know. I actually found myself relating to a lot of what she said. More so than I care to admit.

She is actually a pretty good writer when she's not wallowing in self-pity. I did enjoy parts of Prozac Nation, but I think she needs to dial down the poor me routine. I suffer from major depressive disorder (also called clinical depression) and can certainly empathize with and relate to her, but sometimes gets on my last nerve. I have a love/hate relationship with her.

Yeah I can relate somewhat but I'm also horrified that after all these years she's still a terrible writer. Her lack of self-awareness at how boring she is, despite her experiences answers her own questions about why she hasn't found what she's looking for. She's still only interested in herself. Maybe when she starts being interested in these people for who they are and not how she's reflected in them, will she find somebody that will hold her interest.

She says she has something in her 40s that she didn't have in her 20s, which would make her a better partner at her current age, but judging from her descriptions of herself she actually seems to be exactly the same in her 40s as she was in her 20s.

I read the article too. And, yes, I can relate also to a certain degree. But she's so self-absorbed. I find her writing good but at times annoying. One line will seem very true, the next has me rolling my eyes.

There are elements of her that I relate to, especially moments in "Prozac Nation" (although I wasn't as outwardly self-destructive).

In that article, I noticed she writes in the same voice as in PZ--a book written when she was 26. I even noticed some metaphors that are exactly the same--the Crystals song, "packing up chips and going home," "I could have been a contender."

Sorry but I'm sick of her. The money she made from Prozac Nation can get her all the botox and plastic surgery she thinks she needs to feel superficially good about herself...until she finds something new to whine about.
