I want my Danny. I think that was his name; he came in second. It has been so long, since I've seen him.
Anyway, his brother won. I just hope they invite him back, because he was one of the best male dancers and might I say finest.

My favorite is actually Gev, but there's no way he'd be an all-star; not versatile enough. But I loved his solos and he was my pocket boyfriend.

Billy Bell! I got my Billy Bell!
That first female solo dancer, I think her name was Lauren... she was so good. The male judges except Nigel went just nuts for her, as well they should have. Personality, talent and energy like that has to be Top Ten material. The rest of the girls I don't care about.
I do wish they had kept the tall gangly guy though, he would have gone far in the judging. I think maybe they saw a trajectory like Benji for him and were trying to avoid that, but he would have been one of my favorites for sure. Oh well, I still have next year...

Billy Bell and Alex Wong!
I'm sad about the tall guy, too, but hopefully he'll come back next year, a la Twitch, Hok, and a lot of other contestants.
I'm a huge pile of meh on the female contestants. I think that brunette contemporary boy (Robert?) and brunette contemporary girl (Ashley?) were cast to be initial eliminations. But that's what I said about Jeanine and Kathryn in the in the past two seasons, and I was totally wrong.
I'm not happy with the way the judges treated Ida Saki and her Presidential Scholarship. That's a big freaking deal, and they just made it seem like she was a shitty dancer.

But it's not like she didn't know about her scholarship until right when she decided to leave the competition. I'm sure that's why they included the day 1 interview footage in which she said college is important but could wait. Suddenly after squeaking through for two rounds, she just can't pass on school right now. To me, it definitely seemed like an excuse. I, too, was surprised that the tall guy (Adrian?) didn't make it, but when they take so few people, someone has to go. I look forward to seeing Robert or whatever his name is, since I have no sense of his dancing. He must be pretty great to have taken a contemporary spot over Adrian. Lauren's definitely a favorite, so it'll be interesting to see what she can do on the show, or if she'll be like the blonde girl in Janine's season who never quite took off, despite her talent.

According to TWOP she had told them when she auditioned that she had this prior commitment and could not go to Vegas but the producers asked her to come anyways. And they knew on the first day of Vegas that she couldn't stay the whole week but made her go on stage to announce it publicly at the end of the week for more drama or something. 11 dancers and 7 of them are contemporary (plus one ballet). It seems like they really want a male contemporary to win this year.

If that's the case, then I think I blame the parents or a dance teacher for not being the voice of reason and telling her not to audition or not to go to Vegas. I understand why an 18 year old would be swayed by the producers, and that as an adult it was her choice, but if you sign up to be on a tv show, you can't be surprised when they set up situations to be good for tv. And if her parents/teachers did tell her not to go and she went anyway, then I guess it's a life lesson for her about the negative side of 15 minutes of fame.

Yeah, that doesn't even make sense. Why would she bother auditioning if she knew from the start she couldn't even get past round 2? Honestly, I'm wondering. Did the "being on TV, people see what you can do" thing so important it was worth looking like a quitter or whatever at the end?

I'm not sure I like this new format of having the new dancers dance with the old....scratch that - I hate it.
Part of the fun of a new season of SYTYCD is watching all the newbies dance and falling in love with someone you just didn't expect to like, based on some unexpected and wonderful routine. Even during the first episode last year, I could tell who was starting to stand out for me.
But with so many people on stage, half of whom we are not supposed to consider for voting, it really really muddies the waters.... Last night I couldn't tell who was dancing because of the way it was being filmed.
And in some cases the newbies rerally suffered in comparison to the all-stars, like when Anya blew away the newbie in the latin ballroom number.
Why did they have to change the format... we don't need another damn Dancing With The Stars! Or was it that Nigel realized that those other dance shows were hiring all the SYTYCD prior season dancers and capitalizing on the increased face value of those former newbies?

That menage-a-trois number was really hot, but yeah, Anya wiped the floor with Cristina.
